Amazon offering 50% off on Prime membership for people on EBT

American Thinker:

Amazon is offering a great deal: 50% off its Prime membership, which offers free two-day delivery for a wide variety of goods, as long as you can show that you buy things with someone else’s money – namely, an EBT card.

The discount slashes the cost of Amazon’s monthly Prime membership nearly in half, to $5.99 a month, for customers who have an electronic benefit transfer card, which is used for government assistance like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as food stamps.

“Prime is the gateway drug for the heroin that is Amazon[.] … If this can get new people into the Amazon ecosystem, it’s very sticky.”

Isn’t it great that Amazon is getting people on welfare addicted to a gateway drug?

Amazon has a lot of great deals for people on welfare.  The Amazon Echo music player is only $180. read more here

  1. Yet another reason to boycott Amazon. Add EBT to the growing list. Washington Post being at the top.
I haven’t bought from them in quite a while. Used to use them frequently.

  2. They aren’t allowing the EBT card to pay for the Prime account, just as “proof” of “low” income. That’s bad enough. If we have to subsidize these low-lifes via our taxes, how are they able to buy luxuries Prime provides? This is bullshit; our membership dues increased 20 bucks to pay for this. We all need to let Amazon hear about this.

  3. I enjoy prime membership, however this is making me rethink it. I’m actually offended. I’m not against providing those in need, or those less fortunate, with a helping hand, but this “helping hand” is totally unnecessary.

American Express used to call it right: membership used to have its privileges.

  4. Pisses me off a little like missing out on my obama phone.

I have Amazon prime and like it – would be fun to pay half price but sadly I worked for a living and don’t qualify even if I am disabled and retired early. Go figure.

  5. Amazon is not a good place to grocery shop because it’s over-priced on so many goods. Their food selection is limited too. Good place for specialty items but that’s all. When it comes to food the dollar store and local market is a much better deal. This is another hand out to illegals and poor immigrants coming here to live off taxpayers.

  6. Discrimination.

This is obvious discrimination against people who actually earn their money in favor of those who don’t.

    Boycott Amazon. Boycotts DO work.

  7. If you have ever had a problem with an Amazon order, you know it’s impossible to contact them to resolve it.

Walmart has a page on their site just for dealing with this sort of stuff.

If Walmart had more of the stuff I like to buy, I’d preferentially buy from them over Amazon just because of their awareness of the necessity for a mechanism to deal with the inevitable problems, if no other reason.

  8. Bet this will get Amazon and SNAP recipients in trouble. Those EBT acct. numbers might be confidential and not eligible for sharing in this case. BTW, there is a cash option with EBT cards. Which means, if a welfare recipient qualifies, they receive cash each month. Not an expert, but worked in social services years ago. Government welfare is out of control and progressives like Bezos make it worse.

  9. This news was like a slap in the face. I didn’t make babies I couldn’t afford. I barely make ends meet but do and prime music was a huge selling point for me as I use it every morning at work. I’d rather give my money to another music provider.

Amazon prime is a LUXURY not a necessity. If you depend on others to meet your needs you don’t need frivolous stuff. You can wait it out an extra few days for delivery. You can turn the radio on. You can watch basic tv.

What next? Charge everyone based on their skin color then their annual income?
