NYP:
An Amish community in Pennsylvania may have become the first group in the US to achieve herd immunity, a local health official claims.
The administrator of a medical center in the heart of Lancaster County’s New Holland Borough, which is known for its Amish and Mennonite communities, estimates that as many as 90 percent of the religious families have had at least one family member infected with the virus.
“So, you would think if COVID was as contagious as they say, it would go through like a tsunami; and it did,” said Allen Hoover, an administrator of the Parochial Medical Center, which caters to the religious community and has 33,000 patients.
The Amish and Mennonite groups initially complied with stay-at-home orders at the beginning of the pandemic — shuttering schoolhouses and canceling church services.
But by late April, they had resumed worship services, where they shared communion cups and holy kisses, a church greeting among believers.
Soon after, the virus tore throughout the religious enclave.
“It was bad here in the spring; one patient right after another,” said Pam Cooper, a physician’s assistant at the Parochial Medical Center. more
I’ve reached herd immunity too. Do I get a purple button? Not even a cold or sniffles. Must be all that hard living I’ve been doing for 1/2 a century and more. Garlic, eat garlic! That’ll keep the herd away from you. 🙂
Meanwhile…

Even though 90% of them have been infected, in their estimation, it still isn’t herd immunity. Herd immunity is now only if everyone gets the vaccination. They continue to change the definitions of words when the old definition doesn’t allow them to keep people under control. And you’ll notice that they say all of these people showed up at the clinic, but it doesn’t say anyone went to the hospital. And yes, Amish use hospitals. So how dangerous is the virus right now?
Note now herd immunity doesn’t exist?! Only a vaccination will work. So they again move the goal posts. How did we ever get through any other pandemic? They just want you to STFU and be a fearful compliant profit center for big pharma.
Maybe the Amish have reached heard immunity because they have managed to say to officials “Mayest thou engage in self intercourse.”
Just discovered today that I’m Amish. Heck of a coincidence.
Now if we can just get them to behave during spring break in Miami. Slow down on the rioting and looting.
It didn’t mention deaths. My guess is that with every member of the community healthy and spending time in the sun every day there were none or perhaps one anomaly.
The human body in most cases takes care of itself.
56% of all statistics are wrong.
Lancaster County, PA:
Population: 545,724
Cases: 47,656 = 8.7% 0f population (slightly higher than total PA number)
Deaths: 1077 = 2.2% of cases (slightly lower than PA number)
There you go. Stop wearing the damned masks!!!!!
I frequent a monthly car show in Shrewsbury, PA at the Amish Market (true).

The Amish workers did not wear masks all year (even indoors). Most “English” (what the Amish call everyone else) dumped their masks while at the market too!
They got it over with quickly and are done.
We stretched it out for what will be 1 – 2 years.
Old ways are based on wisdom not cowardice.

I heard the reason the Amish didn’t have any problems with covid is because they don’t have tv.
It’s the distelfink barn hex that wards off the Evil Virus.
Anyone know if the “covid passport” is going to be a card you keep in your wallet or a yellow star you pin on the front of your shirt?
Just cos Amish don’t watch TV
