Amish farmer wins court battle for ‘food freedom,’ can return to selling raw meat and milk

PM: An Amish farmer is back to be able to sell raw milk and meat after a US Appeals Court dropped a $300,000 fine against him is allowing him to resume selling raw milk meat. Amos Miller does not use antibacterial chemicals to sterilize his products, which means it is considered “adulterated,” by the USDA.

According to Food Safety News, in a deal negotiated by Miller’s lawyer last week, the $300,000 in fines was negotiated down to $55,000 payable over the next six months and Miller’s contempt of court hearing has been canceled, with the case having been put in stay and abeyance, provided that the farmer makes the payments.

Earlier this year, Amos’s farm, located in the Amish village of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, which has been operating for nearly 30 years, was raided by armed federal agents who demanded he cease operations for allegedly failing to comply with federal regulations. His claim is that the regulations of the USDA are not actually good for the food he produces. A federal judge ordered the farmer to stop selling his product. MORE

  1. A small win but a much needed win. The government has been way over the top with armed raids on people like this while fentanyl pours over our border.
I have almost always processed my own deer, elk and moose. Fish and other meat and goats milk without the help of the government and have never had a bad experience. It is healthier and has not been handled by multiple people in massive slaughter houses. I also did my own crab, halibut and salmon when I lived in Alaska, again it was very healthy and clean.
I’m sure most readers here are aware of the government push to “register” our gardens. Why do they want to know that. Very dangerous times we are living in.

  2. If the farmer isn’t misrepresenting his products the gov’t shouldn’t be involved.
    PERIOD.

This is bureaucratic overreach coupled with greed and megalomania.

  3. “The guy shouldn’t have to pay anything.”

    It’s called “extortion.”
He pays so the maggots in gov’t leave him alone.

Gov’t is a huge criminal conspiracy.

  4. My 90 yr/old mother could make the most amazing cheese until she couldn’t buy whole real milk in SE Pennsylvania, at least 15 years now.

“We’re from the government, we’re here to protect you.” With the despicable ASSWIPES, who’ve occupied our government from bow to stern, how can you not hate the hell out of them all??!

    Oh yeah, Merry Christmas!
