Another Democrat Opposes the Schumer Shutdown

RedState- One of these rare Democrats would seem to be (for the moment, anyway) Representative Jared Golden (D-ME), who has criticized the far-left wing of his own party over the shutdown.

That’s remarkable.

Democratic Rep. Jared Golden  (Maine) criticized “far-left groups” for demanding Democrats vote against a Republican-backed proposal to fund the government.

“This government shutdown is the result of hardball politics driven by the demands far-left groups are making for Democratic Party leaders to put on a show of their opposition to President Trump,” Golden said in a Wednesday statement

Golden was the lone Democrat to vote for the GOP funding bill, which passed the House 217-212 on Sept. 19.

In a statement the day of the vote, Golden’s office pointed to the impacts a shutdown would have on the more than 12,000 federal workers in Maine and argued a closure would give the president “extraordinary leeway in determining which aspects of government are ‘essential,’ and which can be shuttered.”

Now, Jared Golden may be of a sound mind on this shutdown, but that doesn’t make him a conservative, or even whatever passes for a moderate in the Democratic Party these days. He’s normally a reliable Democrat vote in the House. But on this issue? He’s on the money. There’s a time and a place for any political party to dig in its heels and fight, but for Democrats, now, on this issue, this isn’t it. It’s to Rep. Diamond’s credit that he gets that much. more

  1. Well I thin they need three more. There was one Republican hold out that no body seems to want to name however I read it was Rand Paul. Either way Chucky is going down in flames and he’s taking the democrat party with him.

  2. I believe that 4 Dems total voted for the CR. One in House, 3 Senators including Fetterman.
@Brad – yes, it was Rand Paul. They needed 5 more Dems with Paul as a nay, 4 more if he was a yes.
Would looooove for Fetterman to start voting GOP side consistently, maybe even change parties.

  4. AOC thinks she’s the reincarnation of ‘The Won’, not Gruesome. As if there is any value to that. Doesn’t matter, Dem Party is going to hell.
And the longer the shutdown the better, more opportunity for Trump, DOGE, all of the dept. heads to get rid of bad and useless employees.

  6. We should send flagellums to Congressional Democrats so they can commence self-flagellation as their poll numbers decline.

    Dear Sir,

Please use the attached flagellum to beat (whip) yourself about the head and shoulders. We think you’ll enjoy it. Thank you.

  7. Golden is running for reelection and the second district is pretty conservative. The only reason he won was because of ranked choice cheating.
He’s running against former Governor Paul LePage, a friend of Trump

Some people play pick-up games with very tall people. Says more about the height of the midgets than the people they play against.
