Rallies [against Orban’s government] have been held regularly over the past two months, sparked by a failed government attempt to tax Internet use, the prime minister’s increasingly close economic ties with Russia, and suspected corruption among top officials.

Bureaucratic corruption seems to be emerging as a world wide phenomenon.
Or people are noticing it more.
Or, perhaps, there’s less tolerance because of contracting economies.
Looks like community organizing to me. “Waving red socialist flags” yet the comment about unfavorable ties to Russia. Hungary is a strange bird and a totally different culture and language than its surrounding Slavic neighbors. The people look more like northern Europeans (actually like traditional Americans) and are very reserved. I was there in 2000 and again in 2006. The transformation in those six years was tremendous. Gone were the old commie cars and people were driving new European vehicles. There were huge Costco-like shopping centers and many people were starting to prosper. Methinks these protests are organized from the outside and are meant to persuade Hungarians against capitalism.
Throughout modern history we’ve seen this and they were all warned as to how it comes about…..nobody listens. The Republic of the United States had some of the loudest voices during her formation. This wasn’t just as for this country alone, it was a guide to lead others to a smaller and responsible government as well. The guide was the thoughts of the founders called the Federalist papers. On top of those you had Bastiat and Tocqueville handing out lessons to anyone looking to form responsible government. Did anyone learn them, hell no.
