Pumpkins are good for literally 2 things;
making pumpkin pies, and throwing them off bridges.
Well Iām all all out of bridges.

No pumpkin pie, pumkin spiced anything or pumpkins on porches. Pumpkins suck unless they have an evil face carved into them…
Now can we talk about kumcuats?!
Oh…they make great targets.
Cut a hole in one, fill with water…..
And you don’t even have to clean up the mess.
Thanks, you just ruined my contribution to Thanksgiving. I want to shove that millennial’s face into his making a joke pie.
Sorry, pumpkins are just great for smashing. No pumpkin pie, pumpkin spiced anything or pumpkins on porches. Pumpkins suck unless they have an evil face carved into them with a little candle burning that awful smell that reminds me of that taste when prepared that can’t withstand without tons of sugar…
Now can we talk about kumcuats?!
Mince meat please or pecan pie! Pumpkin is a distant 3rd
I hate the smell and taste of pumpkin. I make 2 pumpkin pies every Thanksgiving for my family who all love them and I almost gag while making them. It’s the only thing I cook without tasting, so it’s a good thing for them I never change the recipe and it always turns out the same.
Motown Favorites – Kumquats, what are they good for? Absolutely nothing,,, Say it again,,
Some of you just aren’t making the pies right. It’s all about the right amount of spices, condensed milk, and sugar.
Also, if you don’t have an amazing crust base that is at least double, then it’s gonna be too much filling.
Lastly, I make an amazing Pumpkin Pie, just like my mom does and another key is homemade whip cream made with vanilla and powdered sugar. It’s great. Trust me.
(Although nothing beats my cheesecake, or my pumpkin cheesecake. ;b)
Store bought pumpkin pie sucks because it’s cardboard crust and pumpkin puree with way too much white sugar.
Love pumpkin pie.
And pumpkins are a food source for millions. Some charity has introduced them to Africa to relieve the hunger there, though an adoption of benign gov’t would better serve.
We leave em out on the porch and the deer eventually eat them – every last bit.
Also, hippopotamuses (hippopotami?) seem to really enjoy them.
izlamo delenda est …
In order to properly eat a piece of pumpkin pie, you should:
a. Turn it over, so that the crust is on top
b. Put the whipped topping on the crust
c. Eat only the delicious flaky crust with the whipped topping on it
d. Discard the gunky orange residue in a garbage disposal (or composter, if you have one)

We make pumpkin pie from real pumpkins… We use coconut milk to boot.
Grind all our own spices … You never go back to cans
Pumpkin Pie is the whole reason for Thanksgiving. I love the stuff, as does Mrs. Mxyzptlk. Her idiot Millennial children, not so much. Fine, more for us. Here’s my secret to an extra special pie: 2 Tablespoons Maple Jack Daniels in the filling. (Or any whisky for that matter) And if you make your own whipped topping: a tablespoon of the same in there.
For breakfast, Mrs. Groucho rolled out biscuits from scratch and I made the gravy from scratch… The Strawberry jelly was made in our kitchen too
That’s just how we roll here
Launching pumpkins from an air cannon is also an alternative
Why not have the best of both worlds. I’ve made these over the last 20 years & everyone loved them. This one is an easy recipe & there are a number of made from scratch versions, if you want to exert the elbow grease to make them.

I hate the taste and the smell too! Got that same gaggy thing Ugh. Anyway I did make Big Brother two of em when he came back from Viet Nam. It’s his favorite. I’m Number One Sister.
Do they even show Punkin Chunkin on either The Discovery Channel or The Science Channel anymore on Thanksgiving? I’m still waiting for the first person to launch one over a mile and besides I love all the gizmos, the air cannons, trebuchets and catapults and other assorted sometimes almost Rube Goldberg like machines they use to launch pumpkins as far as they will go. My brother and I once went to a beer keg throwing contest launched by catapults, trebuchets etc, it was a lot of fun.
And, Shitting
Trebuchet ammo.
My great uncle’s second wife hated pumpkin pie and mince meat pie….she came up with a pear pie. I encourage yo’ll to make a pear pie your go to for Thanksgiving….your welcome..http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/14141/perfect-pear-pie.aspx
@Tim: What part of California do you live, where your pumpkins are eaten by deer AND hippopotamus???
Put me on the list of Pumpkin Pie lovers. But then, my wife bakes an excellent pie.
My Mom has been making pumpkin pies for at least 60 years that I know of. They are superior to every other pumpkin pie I have tasted.
Thanks Mom!
@Mr. Mxyzptlk: You just may have convinced me to rethink my opinion of pumpkin pie.
š
P.S. – Actually, pumpkin is not the worst of the traditional holiday pies. Mincemeat is. I can’t imagine who would ever think of putting raisins in a pie. Yuck.
I’m with willy on the pear pie, I made one last week.
The best kept secret ever. If you can find the hard kieffer pears, make it like an apple pie.
I hate pumpkin pie as well, I use a sweet potato recipe from Justin Wilson.
The best one ever, sweet potato pie is something of a point of pride in the south, this one is the best ever.
The trick is to roast the potatoes, concentrates the flavour and it’s not so goopy.
That reminds me, time to make the mincemeat filling, has to soak in the bourbon for a while.
You forgot Pumpkin Chunkin.
I use the old Betty Crocker recipe for pumpkin pie and every year I steam and freeze sugar pumpkin puree just for pies. I like pumpkin pie — once a year, just like turkey. I’m not a big fan of traditional Thanksgiving fare. Except yams. I love yams.
AA, you can have my yams, sweet potatoes and yellow squash too. I can’t stand ’em.
Pumpkin is a little difficult to incorporate into food but I make all kinds of stuff with them because I grow them and they costs me nothing and baked seeds are the best .
Sweet potato pie is lots better than pumpkin. Get a good ‘ol southern recipe and give it a go. Don’t forget the whipped cream on top, but not the stuff in a can, make it yourself. Then sprinkle turbinado sugar over the whipped cream.
Good taistin’ she-it, as the Aussies would say.
