AOC Reads Whole ‘Green New Deal’ on House Floor to Combat ‘Misinformation’

Breitbart: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) read the entire 14-page signature “Green New Deal” on the House floor Wednesday afternoon because she claims that Republicans do not understand it.

The self-described Democratic socialist took to the House floor on Wednesday to talk about climate change and criticize those who are against her big government-oriented solutions.

The 30-year-old Democrat said she decided to enter the measure into the congressional record because she wanted to send a message to her Republican “colleagues across the aisle.”

[…]

Ocasio-Cortez gave a dramatic reading of the Green New Deal, otherwise known as House Resolution 109, which calls for drastically reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, creating millions of jobs, and strengthening U.S. infrastructure by launching a 10-year phase to transition into clean energy.

The bill did not cite how much the program would cost, but one study said the amount of money needed to fund the Green New Deal would be about $93 trillion in the first ten years. MORE

  1. Libertarians think that they should give up defending freedom because Americans hate liberty, but Libertarians should keep resisting tyranny for selfish reasons.

While the elites control the money, government, and media, the 99% have the numbers.

One Libertarian may not be able to resist being sent to the concentration camps, but one million people might.

  2. She can blame it on the Republicans all she wants, but it’s obvious the Democrats also believe this is dead on arrival otherwise it would have come up for a vote already. I wouldn’t say she wasted her time, though. She just read the Democrats’ death sentence into the record.

what’s she going to do? wave a magic wand?

they have no idea how to accomplish all this, pay for it and it still won’t affect the weather

  4. “…Why is this so controversial?” Ocasio-Cortez said at the end of her House speech…”

Meg Ryan may have been sleepless in Seattle, but Occasional-Cortex is clueless in D.C.

  5. Welcome to the land known as “Idiocracy”. When the insanity such as this is read from the chamber floor of the Congress of the United States then we, my fellow Patriots, have arrived. Now the only thing to do is put congresspeople like this back to their previous jobs.

  6. “The self-described Democratic socialist took to the House floor on Wednesday …”

And that is why 24/7 adult supervision of Congress should be REQUIRED.

  7. She is upset not enough of her colleagues read the bill?
Was she upset when none of her side of the aisle read Ibamacare?
And just how is giving them more money going to magically give them the power to control weather?

  8. It’s taken my region; Seattle-Tacoma about 20 years of discussion to even bring up plans for some kind of regional light rail or something. I don’t know the details. Finally they built something that’s hardly more than a trolley that a couple people use for kicks. Yet, in AOC’s world we’re going to almost instantly have trains going all over the nation, looking like strings on a tennis racket. You want a direct train from Pocatello, Idaho to Sevierville, Tennessee? Okay, we have that line, direct route, no stops. Of course all of this construction won’t hurt the environment either, somehow. Only will require 180 million construction workers, by one estimate. Print money to pay them.

  9. because the United States has historically been responsible for a disproportionate amount of greenhouse
gas emissions, having emitted 20 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions through 2014, and has a high technological capacity, the United States must take a leading
role in reducing emissions through economic transformation

Economic transformation? Wouldn’t it make more sense to cut CO2 emissions in order to reduce CO2 emissions rather than transforming the whole economy?

20%? Even if that is a “disproportionate” amount, meaning it’s too high, the best the U.S. can ever accomplish, by AOC’s own admission, is 20%. The remaining 80% will still destroy the world.

So we transform our economy, rather than reducing CO2 output, in order to reduce global CO2 output by no more than 20% no matter how much economy transforming we do. The end result is the rest of the world will still destroy the world, according to their own “science.”

Sounds like a typical stupid plan from democrats.

How dare you depreciate my NEST EGG!? HOW DARE YOU!?

Just offer them a free green card, when the job’s done. Hell! They’ll pay me, again, to take the jobs!

  11. More “Shovel-ready” jobs that accomplish nothing?
Been there, done that, wasted a whole lot of money that could be put to better purpose.
But that’s what the left ALWAYS does.

  12. Is this the original Green New Deal she came up with a year ago, or the heavily edited version with the really, REALLY stupid stuff removed, after people on her own side of the aisle started laughing at her?

  13. The Economics Department at Boston University must be really proud of this alumnae. I bet when she started this transforming the economy nonsense they removed her from most of their literature. Just how bad must their curriculum be to have taught this drivel and then to have the school graduate her cum laude. Hell maybe the cum laude was for the bj’s she gave to her professors and TA’s.

  14. Trees emit co2 at night, could the problem be solved by cutting down 20% of the trees?
These same trees also produce oxygen during the day, but that is another issue.

  15. We used to have passenger trains and trolleys serving the entire nation. People wouldn’t ride them after cars came along because people want freedom and independence to go when and where they choose.
