Are activist illegals being targeted for deportation?

American Thinker:

According to Vice News, the Department of Homeland Security appears to be targeting foreign nationals who are engaging in political activity in the United States while being here illegally.

Since President Trump took office, ICE has arrested at least 20 undocumented activists. As that figure continues to rise, advocates across the country increasingly worry they’re being targeted because of their activism — not their immigration status.

Marcos Baltazar, an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who sits on the board of the Alabama-based immigrants’ rights group Adelante, was arrested during a routine check-in on Thursday. He and his 18-year-old son are being held at the Etowah County Detention Center, a facility plagued by allegations of human rights abuses.

Though Adelante has been hesitant to accuse ICE of detaining Baltazar because of his advocacy work, he’s not the first high-profile activist the agency has arrested. The next day, Francisco Silva, a volunteer with the Chicago-based Organized Communities Against Deportations, was also arrested during a bond review Friday even though an immigration judge released him on bond in 2015. And in May, immigration officers arrested an undocumented college student just three days after he read a poem criticizing the agency.

Up until now, these foreign nationals have utilized the U.S. political system to advance their interests in the U.S. and actually viewed that activism as a sort of protection from any enforcement action on their illegal status. Lawmen would be afraid of bad press, so the logic went, if they arrested a politically vocal illegal immigrant, which of course created an incentive to being vocal. Self-interest is as applicable to illegal immigrants seeking protection as it is to capitalists trying to turn a profit through free market mechanisms. And there was some truth to this view as illegal immigrants staged church sanctuary showdowns to avoid deportation and then escaped any enforcement action that other illegal immigrants didn’t. read more

  1. If after initially disappearing into the interior of the US illegals become known, what is ICE supposed to do? Their job is to seek illegals by whatever means and deport them. Make yourself known and that’s on you, you shouldn’t be here breaking the law in the first place.

  2. I sure hope so. It has always galled me that democrats invite illegal aliens into Congress to give testimony or to sit in on a SOTU. It’s a disgrace to flaunt their lawlessness in the open like that.

  3. ” …. who are engaging in political activity in the United States while being here illegally.”

What a awkward, but politically correct, way to avoid saying they are illegals advocating against American laws and policies.

  4. Too bad they can’t deport along side them the dem politicians that provide illegals sanctuary, brazenly help illegals skirt ICE by notifying them ahead of time, releasing them back into our population and refusing to obey authorized hold requests along with just ignoring ongoing crimes committed so as not to involve them in the justice system. Great idea to start targeting these activists.

  5. So not only are we supposed to tolerate illegal aliens thumbing their nose at our laws but we are now expected to believe it is just awful to target those who not only ignore our immigration laws but yell, scream, and protest about how unjust our country is? Laughable.

  6. “Are activist illegals being targeted for deportation?”

    …and if not, WHY not?!?

…were I to go on TV and not only brag about breaking into homes, but also tell OTHERS how to break into homes, I could swiftly and surely expect to have a couple of stout fellows im uniforms to come visit, and refuse to leave without me.

If these folks get arrested for breaking laws and promoting the breaking of laws, it just means that rule of law still means something, at least for a little while longer…

  7. The loud mouth’s get caught first. They make themselves easy targets so what else would you expect. The rest have to be tracked down in their burrows. Fortunately they’re easily tracked by the trail of government checks.

  8. I would have a lot more sympathy if they would wave our flag.
Waving their flag signals an invasion, deport them all, ASAP.
The Hong Kong folks know how we roll, Chinese are smarter, everybody knows that.
We got work to do now.

  9. Illegal activists not only advocate for so-called “Immigrant Rights”, they also send a clear and strong message to all illegals that they are untouchable, AND they send a clear message to illegals that law enforcement is the enemy and must be dealt with as an enemy. As the linked article states, the federal gov’t keeps no stats on the number of police officers killed by illegals, but they showcase 10 LEOs who were killed by them; many by illegals who were deported numerous times or were released by activist judges and so-called sanctuary cities:

Activist illegal aliens embolden all illegals to break our laws; laws that would put any citizen behind bars and especially crimes against ICE and law enforcement. This, I think, is why POTUS Trump has stepped up measures to get rid of them. How any politician can stand behind or protect illegal activists’ sedition is something I cannot fathom.

  11. I hope they are targeting them. Tee up La Reza next!.

Deport the illegals in La Reza. Any naturalized members caught breaking the law or engaged in serious anti-American activities should have their citizenship revoked and deported.

  12. Also, start zero tolerance enforcement of the US Code and prosecute people who aid and enable illegal aliens. I am not talking about people’s house political opinions, but rather those who physically aid them.

  13. These “activists” should be deported and never be allowed to return. It’s the right thing to do. They have no right to try to change policy or anything else in our country because they are not citizens, they are law breakers and disrespect our immigration laws.
