At least five people were killed and dozens more were injured in a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The crash involved a tour bus, passenger vehicles, and two tractor-trailers, NBC News reported.
Pennsylvania Turnpike spokesperson Carl DeFebo confirmed in a tweet that about 60 people were taken to area hospitals, and there were five confirmed dead at the scene.
Somerset Hospital said in a statement that it treated and released 18 patients involved in the crash.
DeFebo said that the turnpike will likely undergo a “prolonged closure,” adding that officers were still at the scene of the incident.

I haven’t been on the PA Turnpike in almost 20 years. It was a complete mess back then. Construction every mile of it that I was on it.
But these days you add cell’ ‘phones and nearly everyone becomes a bonehead. Boneheads ruin everything — but boneheads + stupid traffic engineering principles = mucho dead people.

One week ago, a twenty year old neighbor of mine and his twenty year old girlfriend were involved in a horrible car crash just a few miles down the highway from me. The car they were in burst into flames when it hit oncoming traffic. They both died. I prayed that they had died upon impact but I learned today that an eyewitness saw the young man burn alive in the car and was helpless to do anything about it. I’m having trouble thinking about it but I can’t imagine seeing that. Please, pray for all involved.
