BPR: The commander in creep was at it again Tuesday with a baffling response from President Joe Biden to a question on his COVID emergency end date that left him up close and personal and holding the reporter’s hand.
It was a rainy morning in Washington, D.C. as the president departed the White House on his way to New York City where he would go on to make an infrastructure speech before attending a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. But a funny thing happened on the way to Marine One as Biden stepped out toward the South Lawn and veered off course to get cozy with NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker under her umbrella.
As she asked “What’s behind your decision to end the COVID emergency?” Biden closed in on her until he was standing with his hand on her hand, grinning like the star of a RomCom, asking back “What did you say?”
Welker repeated her question and the exchange only got weirder as the president appeared to confuse his announcement that the COVID emergency declaration would officially end on May 11 with the ongoing legal fight to end the Title 42 emergency deportation powers.
“The COVID emergency will end when the Supreme Court ends it,” Biden stated. “We’ve extended it to May the 15th to make sure we get everything done. That’s all. There’s nothing behind it all.” MORE
