Daily Caller: The Biden administration is considering increasing tariffs on some Chinese products related to his green agenda, like electric vehicles (EV), in an effort to boost poor market demand and protect domestic industries, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Officials are considering setting higher rates on the already existing tariffs originally placed under the Trump administration, covering around $300 billion in Chinese goods, with Chinese EVs already having a 25% import tax, according to the WSJ. New tariffs could help domestic EV manufacturing, which has struggled with stagnant market demand, only rising from 3% in January to 4% in September of total vehicles sold in the U.S., while the share of EVs produced out of all vehicles has risen from 3% to 6% in that same time. more

The gas tax is the biggest expenditures for a vehicle on a daily bases. They’re already hurting, so, they will go after the electric car people. They’ll place a big time tax on the vehicle at registration time. The cost to operate one of those white elephants is going to electrify you. Those solar panels on top of your house? You aren’t going to cut a fat hog in the ass either. They’ll find a way to get your money, and nothing you can do about it. People complain when they get their “true-up” bill. They thought solar was free!

Even if I was interested in an EV, there is no way I would buy one from China. I would say there are quite a few people who who would avoid a Chinese product unless they absolutely had to buy one.
But Joe is so interested in having people getting EVs that he wants to limit competition that will make an already expensive product more expensive? That seems like saying “We have a food shortage so let’s limit food from other countries.”
Notice that the government never considers reducing the reams of regulations and restrictions placed on American businesses.
Over the years they’ve created a zillion ways to suck money out of the economy I’m almost ready for the great reset! The article says that while raising tariffs, they will lower tariffs on other items. The Chinese probably told Biden to raise tariffs on EVs with a small market, while removing tariffs on products that have a larger market to exploit.
I got my EV in fender bender,dealer told me they could not store it on the lot due to insurance regulations,told me they would store it in a container until they could take the whole car apart and send the battery out for a checkup.Got the car back after only 5 months. It only cost me 60,000 grand.

Boosting tariffs on foreign ev’s will raise prices domestically. Higher prices don’t lead demand. Demand for ev’s will be increased by eliminating any competing option. When the carrot stops working, you use the stick.
Obama performed a hostile takeover of the automobile industry with the bailouts and the Stimulus Bill. EV’s were, and are, produced under duress. Widespread purchase of ev’s will also be made under duress. There is no significant unsubsidized market for ev’s anywhere in the world.
EV’s are only assembled in the US. Nearly all the important parts are sourced from China.
