In the wake of the verdict I revisted some of the reporting on Theranos — much of it right before the fit hit the shan.
Mattis is quoted as saying Holmes had the most (not “one of the most”) well-developed senses of ethics, hard work, etc. of anyone he’d ever known. When Biden visited Theranos HQ, they’d cobbled together every part they could to make up rows of the machine “Edison”. None of them worked. When they put on a dog and pony for him and for investors, they take a finger prick sample, usher everyone off to another meeting or lunch while the bench scientists did limited blood analysis BY HAND.
I can’t believe she wasn’t convicted on the charge of harming patients! That, to me, seemed like the most agresious part of the whole thing.
