Bob Dylan Announces First Album Of New Music Since 2012

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Bob Dylan is releasing his first album of new music in eight years following a spurt of creativity from the man regarded as one of the world’s most influential songwriters.

“Rough and Rowdy Ways” will be released on June 19, according to a brief announcement on Dylan’s official website early on Friday. It will be a double album but no further details were given.

The announcement followed the release late on Thursday of a third new song by Dylan – “False Prophet.”

“I ain’t no false prophet, I just know what I know, I go where only the lonely can go,” sings Dylan, 78, in the bluesy track.

In late March, Dylan surprised fans by releasing a 17-minute song, “Murder Most Foul,” inspired by the assassination more than five decades ago of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. It also included free wheeling observations about pop culture and multiple song references stretching back to the 1960s, when he burst onto the scene as a folk singer before turning to electric rock music later in the decade. read more

  1. “Blood On The Tracks” in ’75 & “Desire” in ’76 were his best, IMHO.
Haven’t heard anything I liked since.
“Nashville Skyline” is pretty good too; worth listening to Bob & Johnnie Cash in a duet -snort-

  2. @Truckbuddy – Bobbie D is a bit more conservative than you think. He actually REJECTED the hippies, he said he was NOT their rep for their generation. I have never looked at Dylan in the left or right category.

He had a Christian experience and as well a re-found Judaism.

The below is one in a trilogy of Christian themed albums:

I have listened to the tracks are they are quite spectacular, and for those that are not crazy about the singing part, in general, on what I have heard, he kinda talks his way through with these incredible lush melodies backed by a string quartet, cello, violins etc.

And how could we not pay attention to someone, ANYONE, that names a song “Murder Most Foul” talking about the…..the effing JFK story!?!? Yikes is what I say to that.

Not many fans here! All good…

  3. Sorry to hear the negative comments about one of the most prolific and talented poets ever. I’m 69-years old. Nope, he doesn’t sing like a bird, but if you haven’t listened to his lyrics, you have no idea of his talent. Not being argumentative here, but many here just don’t understand his immense gift.
