  1. This is the kind of workers issue that unions were originally started for. Sure would be nice if they would return to representing true workers’ welfare and cease the nepotism, cronyism and political activism.

    In my dreams…sigh…

  2. @stirrin, this the lie they tell themselves ,”We need to be powerful, well funded and command influence so that we can best represent our members. We must back/support those candidates (always Dems) that will best recognize our value and worth, and will be accommodating to our needs. If that involves all expenses paid junkets to exotic resorts for the union bosses to schmooze with the powerful, grease some palms, buy a little back scratching, well, our members can thank us later. After all, we only have their best interests at heart.”

  3. Unions have been corrupt since the beginning. They occasionally look out for the members’ interests when they coincide with the bosses’ interests.
Robert Reich said that the bosses “must hold the members’ feet to the fire” (literally: torture them) forgetting that the bosses work for the members, not the other way around. I’m sure his view of government is the same – “We, the People” is a dead concept.
