Brickyard 400 To Run Without Fans

OAN: The July 4 weekend races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be held without spectators.

It marks the second holiday weekend at Indy affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The Indianapolis 500, traditionally run on Memorial Day weekend, was moved to Aug. 23, when fans are expected to be in attendance.

The Brickyard 400 is the marquee event of the weekend.

“While we certainly worked diligently to run our events with spectators, we reached a point where we needed to make a final decision because the race weekend is less than a month away,” said Mark Miles, the president and CEO of Penske Entertainment Corp., in a news release issued Thursday. “Today it’s not possible to be confident that Indianapolis will be at Stage 5 of the state’s reopening plan by the Fourth of July weekend.” more

  2. Not surprised. WE have a republican governor in Indiana that showed his true nazi leftist character during the scamdemic. Anything the Indianapolis Star wanted, he provided.

Now the US House of representatives has just put together a sweeping ‘police reform’ bill.
These are the people who cheered when a swat team was sent to Roger Stones house for a photo opp of their brand of law and order.

  3. Buy a gun and learn how to use it……..finally after 20 years of me preaching, my (probably too stupid to use one) sister wants to know where to buy one……..

  4. Dear non-race car fans:
Ever been to a car race? Ever been to a rock concert?…
Sometimes it ain’t about the racin’ but about the scenery…

Hot weather, scantily dressed women, beer, greasy food, applications of sunscreen?…
These things… fit into my 25 best favorite things…..Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens are nice…..BUT?…they don’t make my top 25…..

  5. Boring to watch or to play because golf, at least to me, is a huge yawner to watch. Whereas playing it is much different. I used to enjoy watching pro football but like basketball, the asshole players ruined it for me, so no more.

Baseball is both fun to watch and play but I know a lot of folks that say watching a game is as exciting as watching paint dry. Actually, once you know the game, watching the pros can be a gas.

But hands down the most exciting sport(for me) to watch or play is tennis. The way you rate your game insures you can get a competitive opponent, it’s no fun to get crushed or to crush someone. And knowing the strategy makes watching the pros an edge of your seat time.

And watching a Grand Slam in person is unforgettable. I love it.

  6. Winged Sprint Cars on a clay oval!

If they run the Nationals at Knoxville IA this year… I’m in. Since Omak Stampede has been cancelled and this is the one chance I will get in my lifetime.

I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch NASAR or Indy car racing.

  7. …I’m seeing enough fast, hard left turning on the news, don’t need to see woke car drivers in wussified, generic cars do it and haven’t since they removed the Stars and Bars and added restrictor plates…

  8. What if they had a race or any sporting event and nobody was allowed to attend? Baseball season this year is lost almost for a certain, concerts have been canceled and everything but riots is on hold. And JDHasty I didn’t know that the Omak Stampede was cancelled until now. Are they also going cancel the Pendleton Roundup later this Summer or the Ellensburg Rodeo? But it’s OK to riot and tear cities apart but no events of any kind for any type of entertainment or sporting events. Are they going to cancel the 4th of July next. CDA, Idaho has already cancelled it’s annual 4th of July fireworks show on CDA Lake because of this phony and much overrated pandemic.

  9. While race fans will not be permitted into the Speedway to watch the race:

Everyone who is carrying a stupid sign, yelling stupid slogans to whine about, I mean, protest about always being a victim, and making the false claim that the majority of the nation doesn’t care about it = will not be prohibited from entering into the Speedway. All covid19 restrictions are suspended for “protesters”. No arrest or prosecution will be pursued.

Groups that step it up to the next level of rioting will be ignored the most and allowed to inflict the most damage to the Speedway facility.

However, “protesters”, and rioters both are cautioned to remain off of the race track itself during the race, where the rules of physics can not be changed by attitude, and the probability of instant death is very high.

  10. I can’t remember what it’s called (i’m old) but there is/was a motorcycle race that was partly on pavement and partly on dirt and it was high speed action. Haven’t seen one in years. Used to race in the desert. Remember “On Any Sunday?” Great fun.
Todays motocross is so boring. Up down, up down, up down. Beats your kidneys to death.

No news on Eburg or Let ‘er Buck yet. If the indians run off the hill anyway the kids and I will be there. We may go to Ft Hall or Pine Ridge for relay. Waterville and Okanogan are still on last I heard.

Gray’s Harbor Raceway was making a comeback. I hope it can make it through this. The Fred Brownfield has been rescheduled for late July.

If I ever make it we will definitely have to go to the races.

BTW: If you want to see REAL stock car racing, check out Australian Vintage Sedan Racing on Youtube. Vintage American and Aussie stock-bodied cars banging fenders on road courses.

  14. Henry Ford, you obviously haven’t watched any of the road course races in NASCAR where they turn BOTH ways. Nor have you watched the roval, which combines a road course and part of an oval track.

  15. Can we go back to Unslung Hero?

His sister is on a treasure hunt of some kind. A hunt full of mystery and suspense.

Will she discover where guns come from? What about the proper care and feeding of her newly discovered gun?

Personally I want to see how this story plays out.
