British Council Member Resigns Over Bathroom Protections That ‘Insidiously Dismantled’ Women’s Rights

DC: A British city council member, Ann Sinnott, resigned after a dispute about whether transgender persons can use female restrooms.

“I do not want to be a member of a council that fails to recognise that female-only facilities are needed by women as a generality,” Cambridge Labour council member Sinnott said explaining her choice to resign from her post, The Times reported Tuesday. “I have no wish to be party to unlawfulness.”

“Nor do I wish to be associated with a council that effectively treated Cambridge women with contempt, while it insidiously dismantled their rights,” Sinnott continued.

Sinnott refers to a policy that states “transgender people will not be excluded from gender-appropriate sex/single-sex segregated facilities,” and alleges that the policy’s wording might violate the law, according to The Times.

The policy, which applies only to council property, comes after the British government passed the Equality Act in 2010 allowing transgender persons to use the restroom that accords with their gender identity rather than biological identity.

Transgender council member Sarah Brown passed the policy. Brown is allegedly in a polyamorous relationship with Cambridge council member Zoe O’Connell. more here

  1. The restrooms need to be labeled vagina only and penis only. If you aren’t equipped with right organ you don’t go in. No one needs to know what’s bouncing around in your head for gender for any given day.

  2. Women unhappy with the results of applying the procedures they designed to address their unhappiness?

I believe the English translation is “Not my circus, not my monkeys.” (Though that may have been legislatively changed to “Not my monkeys, not my circus.” in some jurisdictions.)
