  1. Russia’s only seven operational ships in their entire navy so they want to display a show of force.
Next they steam toward the Indian Ocean an d while on the way they paint over the ships names and numbers.

  2. Both Russian and (the sun never sets) British have small navies who mainly cruise around for training purposes. They aren’t going anywhere special, but it looks nice……

  3. We received a fly by visit from a Soviet helicopter in the Spring of 1974 when I was on board the USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 when we were in the Indian Ocean South of the Persian Gulf. It was in the afternoon between flight ops and I was up on the flight deck when the strangest Soviet helicopter appeared off the starboard (right) side of the ship. The helicopter had 2 counter rotating props on top of it and a big Red Star on it’s side and stayed there about a quarter mile out hovering watching us, we were all watching it as well and taking pictures, they were out there for maybe 10 minutes and then flew off. Back then it was a game during the Cold War for the Soviets to occasionally pull stunts like that. it was quite a memorable afternoon. I never saw another Soviet helicopter ever again. We also had our own choppers out there as well just keeping an eye on them as well. SNS, if there ships are anything like their planes they are in heap big trouble. I saw a Ukrainian mIG 21 Once out at At the Spoane airport whho was escorted by 2 ANG F-16’s down from Canada from an airshow, it was typical Soviet crap.

  4. @ geoff the aardvark, I’ve had to work with civilian equipment put together by Russians, too. This wasn’t even Russian electronics, it was some top-flight Western stuff, but they used some very Russian methods of putting it together and programming it that resulted in a very complex machine that was NEVER going to work with THEM trying to make it work…long story short and a flurry of lawsuits later, we kicked the Russians out of the plant, took the existing frame and electronics, wired them together and programmed them in a way that not, you know, stupid, and managed to salvage a functional machine out of it.

Sad thing is, they’re still in business, but they don’t attempt large-scale machines like ours any more (it had 4 robot arms and a LOT of complexity, and takes up 160 sq.ft. of factory space), and kind of keep themselves to single-arm palletizers now.

We’ve also had Russians work here from time to time, and they do some very Russian things too, but for some reason the Company has been afraid of THEM, even though they are very White, usually male, and don’t otherwise punch any PC boxes.

One case in point was when we had 2 Russian operators, one that spoke English and Russian, and one that spoke only Russian, so they always had to put them together so they’d have a translator, and they were on second shift together and usually alone.

They evidently got bored some nights, and on more than one occasion would leave the fruits of their Web surfing up for all to see: so one morning, the day shift area lead (who was a FEMALE) went to the terminal and had a VERY close shot of a VERY loose vagina staring back at her.

She was NOT happy with this (but lucky for the Company she wasn’t a militant feminist type), so she obviously complained mightily about about it and, militant feminist or no, “hostile workplace” was a thing, so they did have to investigate it.

But for SOME reason, even though it was 1) Happened ONLY on second shift, 2) Happened ONLY when these two were alone together, and 3) The Web site name and ALL the text for navigation within the site were CYRILLIC, s-o-m-e-h-o-w, they couldn’t be “SURE” that it was THESE guys, so they did NOTHING other than remove the terminal from the floor and cut it off from the Internet.

I never COULD figure out why the Company didn’t drop the hammer on them, other than the complexities of firing non-English speaking foreign nationals, or maybe just sheer laziness. In any case, they both kept their jobs.

…They went on to make so much garbage out of food that they got fired anyway, but that’s a different story for another day…

  5. The Italian Assholes are greatfull that the Chinese and Russians have sent people to “help” with their situation.

What they do not realize is that the Ruskies are there to collect samples and study the effects of the disease in order to develop weapons, countermeasures and strategies.

Putin is the worlds largest MOB Boss with a nuclear arsenal.

  6. Supernightshade@

It is because of the ORGANIZED CRIME levels that got then the job and influenced key people in the company with extortion, violence, etc.

A legal company with “clean” employees, with a holding company, with a silent partner, who has multiple buisnesses, that all pay to someone who funnels back to an oligark, who in turn supports Putin.

  7. …we do have a competitor that’s Mafia all the way, though, but they’re run out of WVa, where the Italian variety has been established FOREVER, so probably not compatible…
