JTN: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday survived a no-confidence vote and will remain in office following a scandal involving parties at Downing Street during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Johnson won the support of 211 out of 359 Conservative lawmakers, more than the majority required to remain in power, according to the Associated Press.
Because Johnson had no clear successor, many observers predicted he would defeat the vote.
His margin of victory was very slim compared to historical no-confidence votes, however. more
The British are so fucked. They’ve never gotten over the ass woopen we gave them back in 1776.
like Brad said, brits have been hosed since they lost the colonies of America
their source of world power was dominated by the ability to crank out more & more wooden ships … when they lost the resources America provided for their timber it was inevitable
they lost most of the resources to produce a modern economy (particularly including timber) centuries ago. when a powerful country relies on imports, they leave themselves vulnerable to those, from without & within, to do them harm … when they dried up the coal, without an alternative, they were doomed as a modern power
…. sound familiar?
p.s. for further study, I recommend John Keegan’s ‘The Price of Admiralty’
And right now, they seem completely distracted by their useless royalty again. What’s a “Platinum Jubilee?” One last ‘Hurrah!’ before Putin nukes London? (I know… the Queen… you don’t even want to hear my impersonation of British royal family women!)
Cheer-io and have a lovely day, Brit’s. Oh, and next time Europe is at war, don’t call us.
We have a very opinionated Brit Metal Sales guy that drops by about every two weeks. Not sure why, we never buy from them. Long story short, he dropped by last week, Thursday, went on a rant about how America needs to confiscate guns and how safe jolly old England is. So I asked him, can you own a tactical knife in England, I mean like a 6 inch Gerber in a sheath. Crickets. I was considering calling his office and telling them don’t have him stop by anymore. After pondering it for a minute, I’m telling him next time he stops by.
^^ Similar story. Our guy is from Scotland. But his opinions are exactly opposite.
