Buyers aghast as used car prices soar

FOX: A couple of months ago, a woman paid a visit to Jeff Schrier’s used car lot in Omaha, Nebraska. She was on a tight budget, she said, and was desperate for a vehicle to commute to work.

She was shown three cars priced at her limit, roughly $7,500. Schrier said the woman was stunned.

“‘That’s what I get for $7,500?‘” he recalled her saying. The vehicles had far more age or mileage on them than she had expected for something to replace a car that had been totaled in a crash.  more

  1. Just as our out-of-pocket costs increase as the result of being forced to purchase that broken-down junk heap, Biden. This is just emblematic of his entire administration.

“This is what I get for all the taxes I pay?”

  2. I saw some report that used car prices have gone up more than new, something like 26% in a year. Sure wouldn’t want to be in the market right now, anyone who needs to get one (new or used) is going to pay more or get less.

  3. I bought 8 Black iron pipe fittings.
    4 – nipples 2″ x 3/4 diameter
    4 – 3/4″ Caps.
All 8 pieces fit in my hand.

I was expecting $16 with tax. Max.
    Wrong! $36 + Taxes = $40.68

The average install is about 150 feet of pipe.

  4. I have a Cad CTS that I like a lot but its 12 years old so Ive been looking at new similar Cad sedans for the last 6 months. There aint any..”oh we cant get the chips to build CT4 and CT5 from Taiwan….COVID dontcha know”. Bullshit! These the guys that expect us to come running when the mainland slants invade? And the factories are notorious for slave labor and you expect me to believe they shutdown for the Chinkyflu? This is a form of asymetric warfare and they know they can get away with it because we have a potted plant for Prez. Elect me and I’ll launch 1000 nukes first thing tomorrow.

  5. Erik,

Rolex is a great investment, but only if you eventually sell them and don’t get killed while getting robbed.

I think the Milgauss Z-Blue gets Dropped this year in April.
    $$$$$$$$$$$!

and Good luck buying a Pepsi

  6. I bought a one year old car in April. The chip shortage took off right after that. I got a quote on my old car and didn’t like it. Three months of sitting in the driveway and I got $2000 more for it from the same place that underquoted me before. I was too busy to sell it myself or I could have got an extra $4000.

  7. Beetles are going 12 to 25 thousand. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher.

Something is seriously wrong. I like Beetles for a thousand reasons… mostly because I can drive it to work (when I had a job — I’m retired, right now) five days a week. Good economy. Easy to work on. You can refit pistons and bores in a day. You can refit the clutch in the same day…

    Fucking good car.

  8. Erik,
    Those marathons are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

I did not know enough about then to get in early years ago. (paying the mortgage & such)

However, as my everyday work watch I have a Hamilton Khaki.
I bought my son a Titanium Hamilton Far Cry edition & we share a 3rd olive green one. These 3 watches all have the same Classic Americana WW2 to Vietnam look.
Hamiltons are often used in Movies to get that period look.
They are a Great alternative to wearing a real historic piece.

My current non work is the Explorer 2 42mm Black Dial GMT. You can crack walnuts with it & NO ONE recognizes it.

    Cheers WIS.

  9. @ Kcir – Fuck Off & Unload those Container Ships JANUARY 4, 2022 AT 10:51 PM

I spent the wrong 7 months in northern Ontario a few years ago Kcir, it still cracks me up whe I see “fuck all” used!

I never did figure out when or how to use it, or else I was just never going to get it right because it was hilarious to my Canadian friends when I would try and they just enjoyed their fun.

Either way, it still cracks me up.

  10. Carvana is a decent option. Been good to me so far. My latest buy from them (16 Fully loaded Trailhawk Renegade) with only 12K miles. KBB valued at 11K more than I owe on it.

  11. Kcir, my everyday is and has been for 37 years oysterquartz. One of the many reasons I like it is that in that time only two people have recognized it. Several more looked and explained to me that it’s a fake, since the second hand jumps a second at a time. I don’t know why, but I get enjoyment from that.

  12. Hubby’s truck was totalled. ’07 Sport Trac.
I bought when it was 4 yrs old for $13,000.
He loved that truck. Great size and a bed for the golf clubs, etc. To buy another ’07 up to a ’10 (the final model yr) is now $20,000 – $25,000.
So we ordered a new truck. Basically cheaper.

    Thanks Joe.
Unaffordable rents, unaffordable used cars, unaffordable food.
    Nice legacy.
