Byron York: Much talk that something is up with Mueller. Too bad nobody knows

WaEx: There are two diametrically opposed lines of thinking about Trump-Russia special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. The first is that he is winding down his probe and is unlikely to allege that the Trump campaign and Russia conspired to fix the 2016 presidential election. The second is that he is still going strong, with the biggest charges, perhaps including the fabled collusion allegation, yet to come.

Which is correct? No one outside the Mueller office knows. There are data points, or at least tea leaves, pointing in all directions. But whatever the reality is, there is at this moment a sense that something is imminent from Mueller, and that sense is shaping Trump-Russia politics.

House Democrats are revving up Trump investigations, and one of the questions they face is whether to try to replicate the Mueller probe or rely on the special counsel’s findings when it comes time to consider impeaching the president.

If the House carries out a full-scale, retracing-Mueller’s-steps investigation, it will be led by Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff. In recent days, Schiff has vowed that his new Trump-Russia probe will cover material he says Mueller — who has far more investigative power than the House — might not have been able to examine.

Now, Schiff is taking an extra step. He is refusing to say if he will accept Mueller’s judgment, should Mueller issue a report that does not allege collusion.

“If [Mueller] finds that there was no direct collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, will you accept that?” CNN’s Dana Bash asked Schiff on Sunday.

“Well, we’re going to have to do our own investigation,” Schiff responded.

Schiff said he would be “very interested” to learn what Mueller has found. But he did not say he would accept Mueller’s findings. So Bash asked again.

“Will you — given the fact [Mueller] has had such an extensive investigation, will you accept the findings, separate from the investigation that you are doing?”

“You know, I will certainly accept them in this way,” Schiff said. “I have great confidence in the special counsel. And if the special counsel represents that he has investigated, and not been interfered with, and not been able to make a criminal case, then I will believe that he is operating in good faith.”

The bottom line is that Schiff would not answer whether he would accept a Mueller no-collusion conclusion. But his non-answer made abundantly clear that the answer is no.  more here

Mueller report due to be finalized as early as next week: Report

Attorney General Bill Barr could announce as soon as early next week that special counsel Robert Mueller has completed his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to a new report.

Barr plans to submit to Congress a summary of Mueller’s confidential report on the two-year investigation, CNN reported Wednesday.

Mueller is required to submit a confidential report to the attorney general after he wraps up his investigation. In the report, Mueller must explain why he decided to bring charges against or not prosecute any matters under investigation…

  1. I think Schiff is going to go back and visit all the least credible allegations against Trump that didn’t make the cut two years ago because the charges were so ridiculous, and the Deepers thought they had all the dirt they needed to get rid of Trump within months.

For instance, yesterday the NPC Media mockingbirds were all atwitter about Trump officials, including Mike Flynn, maybe involved with possibly illegal nuclear technology transfer to the Saudis. If you read far enough, you find that this charge came from Elijah Cummings back in November 2017. Everybody jumped on this yesterday at the same time, and now it’s a ghost story. No follow up, no narrative reinforcement, just a drive-by accusation.

Maybe this is what comes after the Mueller report. Just leaked, third-string baseless charges from Dems in Congress, and speculation by journos about investigations of these charges which will never happen.

  2. Friggin’ lawyers are all traitors.
Is there any penalty for making baseless, false allegations?
Was anyone charged for slandering Kavanaugh?
Has anyone brought charges on Bubba and AG Lynch for COLLUDING to fix the election??!!!
What authority did Comey have to personally decide Hitlery committed no crime when she most obviously did? Intentions?!

It’s obvious what Schiff’s intentions are. Yet, he can still ‘investigate’, open-ended, for what 8 years?!
This is all so unbelievable over the edge that it’s an insult to the Roadrunner cartoons.

  3. The first investigation Schiff needs to do is a search for the location of his own head. The best place for him to start is stand with his back to a mirror. Drop his pants, bend over, and search the reflection in the mirror.

  4. Mueller is going to come up with something and we shall see if Barr is going to put up with it or not.
I wish I had a better feeling about Barr’s direction but I just don’t know if he’s a creature of the swamp. What bothers me is I don’t see any jittery perps and lawyers out making statements for those we all know are guilty as hell.
