CA Dem Failed to Pay $175,000 in Taxes Despite Loaning Campaign More Than $250,000

WFB: Embattled California Democrat Rep. T.J. Cox loaned his campaign more than $250,000 even as he failed to pay $175,000 in back taxes.

Weeks after the IRS filed liens against Cox in January showing $145,000 in unpaid federal income taxes for 2016 and 2017, the state of California hit the Democrat with a new lien listing an additional $30,000 in unpaid 2017 personal income tax. Even as he failed to pay his taxes in full, Cox loaned his campaign more than $250,000 from July 2017 to March 2018 while mounting his bid to oust former California Republican representative David Valadao.

Cox will again face Valadao in 2020 after defeating the then-incumbent by less than 1 point. Republicans are hopeful they can win the district back in November, pointing to Valadao’s success in California’s open primary, which advances the two candidates with the most votes to the general election regardless of party. Valadao received 53 percent of the vote to Cox’s 36 percent in early March. read more

  1. He is loaning himself $250,000 to get a job that pays $170,000 that he has to run for election and could loose 2 years from now? That is crazy. In two years he will make $340,00 but it cost him $250,000 out of pocket to net $90,000 over two years. That is $45,000 a year net. Does that even cover his living expenses? You know, room and board while in DC?

What I’m driving at is this joker is so corrupt even Helen Keller can see it. Through the back taxes on top of it and the people should be asking Nancy why this guy is above the law when “no one, not even the POTUS, is above the law”?

  2. If I did this as a decent citizen, I would be in prison.

  3. @Pelopidas: He only loaned the campaign that money. In theory he can get it back. The campaign pays him back with contributions. Of course we know the contributions will be bribes, washed through campaign contributions to make them legal.

  4. Pelopidas –

It is about the bribes, secret commissions on land rezoning, pensions, free dining & travel, ego, and lucrative contracts to friends and family, plus kickbacks…

  5. Being a first term congressman, his small percentage of the skim off of all the foreign aide bills approved by this demotard majority party will more than make up enough for his living expenses in Demotard Central. All the rest is CoC slush funds making it’s way into his election campaign and his tax exempt Institute of Ethics in Govt Foundation. You know, polotickin’ is hard work when everything is a new scam for retirement income in an offshore acct, and includes the lobbyist writing all the spending bills and pay the bar tabs at the evening cocktail parties they all attend.
