Conservative Review: California governor Gavin Newsom (D.) on Wednesday signed legislation mandating publicly traded businesses to hire one diverse board member each by 2021.
Newsom signed a series of racial justice bills last night before their Oct. 1 expiration, including the boardroom diversity quota bill. In addition to adding one diverse member each by 2021, companies with four-person boards must have at least two diverse members, and nine-person boards must include at least three diverse directors by 2022 to meet the quota. California is the first state in the country to implement such a mandate. read more

That used to be called Affirmative Action. Sorta like Obama being preezy, only with less destructive results. On the flip side, this is good news for truly intelligent people who fill the requirement because they will be in hot demand. Being on the “board” isn’t a guarantee of long term employment. The other members can vote you off with legit reason.

It’s unfair that a white man be governor all the time. Make a diversity law that shares the governorship each day of the week. Monday: white man. Tuesday: black man. Wednesday: asian man Thursday: white woman. Friday: black woman Saturday: asian woman. Sunday: Hispanic man.
Evidently this won’t work based on weeks. You’d have to do in by months to accommodate all the diversity that would include gays, transgenders, transvestites, people who identified as gay hippos, etc. Heck, why stop with monthly cycles?

@Hambone – Boulder, CO for now. Yeah, it’s a blue area of a purple state, but I need to be able to visit my parents (and others) often. Long-term, we’ll see how CO goes but more likely SC. I love the ocean, in fact have been to the beach the last 3 days, and I want to stay in the same general latitude.
