CA: Prop 57’s definition of “nonviolent” is incredibly broad

KFI: Proposition 57 is going to do very bad things to this state. Californians voted for it because the prop promised that “nonviolent” inmates, who became better people in prison, could get early parole if they demonstrated that they’re no longer a danger to the public.

The problem with Prop 57 is that the definition of “nonviolent” is incredibly broad. There are many disgusting crimes considered “nonviolent” under Prop 57:

  • Rape by intoxication
  • Rape of an unconscious person
  • Human trafficking involving sex act with minors
  • Drive-by shooting
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Taking a hostage
  • Domestic violence involving trauma
  • Supplying a firearm to a gang member
  • Lewd acts upon a child
  • Hate crime causing physical injury
  • Failing to register as a sex offender
  • Arson causing great bodily injury
  • Felon obtaining a firearm
  • Discharging a firearm on school grounds
  • False imprisonment of an elder

Why would the state grant any kind of early parole to a person who committed any one of those crimes? And how are we supposed to be okay with them back on the streets? The criminals are using California’s prison policies to their advantage and we’re paying dearly for it.

  1. ☸ Ah the great gov’t scam ☸

Disarm the public, then release the violent prisoners upon them. Just like the mafia, “Oh, you don’t want to pay exorbitant union taxes to lock up these people eh? Well we will just let them loose on the street and see how you like them apples.”

  2. If a MoFo steals a handgun worth less than $950.00 in California it’s a Misdemeanor. No jail time, and they don’t lose their gun rights. Go figure that one out. Just who are California law makers trying to protect anyway?

  3. Be kind. California has other pressing financial issues aside from safety. Like a high speed rail system to nowhere. Single payer health insurance. Fixing global warming. Unlimited welfare. Services for illegal aliens.

For each murderer we let out, we can pay for health care for one and one-half illegal aliens, or build 6 inches of high speed rail, or grease one windmill. It’s a question of priorities, people.

  4. Brad,

“If a MoFo steals a handgun worth less than $950.00 in California it’s a Misdemeanor. No jail time, and they don’t lose their gun rights.”

So if my house gets raided and they find unserialized AR-15’s with loaded 30 round magazines in them I’m arrested for having that – but if just I tell them I stole them I don’t lose my gun rights?

  5. Slightly OT. A U.S. Marshal had an AD this morning while boarding a plane in Florida. Maybe 45 rounds every three months is not enough training. How in the hell does something like this happen?

  6. They did leave one out though: Rape, where the college coed willingly had sex with the guy, then chased him and texted him even though he wasn’t interested, then she accuses him of rape, and parades around campus with a mattress on her back.
Yeah, they forgot to include that one.
