Californians vote overwhelmingly to get tougher on crime, despite Newsom’s opposition

Blaze

Currently, thieves can steal under $950 with few consequences.

Californians tired of watching thieves and drug addicts overrun their communities voted overwhelmingly to pass a measure to impose harsher penalties for certain crimes.

Proposition 36, otherwise known as the Drug and Theft Crime Penalties and Treatment-Mandated Felonies Initiative, is not so much a new proposal as a means of modifying a previous one.

Proposition 36 seeks to alter Proposition 47, which passed a decade ago. Under Proposition 47, theft of items worth under $950 could not be prosecuted as a felony, effectively allowing thieves to smash-and-grab their way through drug and big-box stores with little more than a slap on the wrist. more

  1. The much-used — often misunderstood — term “cognitive dissonance” seems to fit California voters’ penchant for hanging on to governor Newsom’s resounding policy failures. Perhaps this recent rejection of his bias for criminals and their behavior signals an important change in even the most diehard “Blue, no matter who” California voter.

Obama once called Christians who supported the constitution “Bitter Clingers.” No one has been has been as bitterly clinging (to losing propositions) as people — not just in California but in every Democrat stronghold — who exhibit the very definition and symptoms of cognitive dissonance. And from every angle, sustained cognitive dissonance takes a heavy toll on mental health.

I hope we are soon past the era where overwhelming numbers of Americans believe they can hold two (or more) conflicting moral ideas and act out their mental illness on the rest of us by trying to make the outer world mirror their inner conflict.

  2. …in support of my comment above, this may be helpful. It’s from the site “Very Well Mind”:

Cognitive Dissonance and the Discomfort of Holding Conflicting Beliefs. How we resolve our internal conflicts.

Cognitive dissonance is the mental discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs, values, or attitudes. People tend to seek consistency in their attitudes and perceptions, so this conflict causes unpleasant feelings of unease or discomfort.

The inconsistency between what people believe and how they behave motivates them to engage in actions that will help minimize feelings of discomfort. People attempt to relieve this tension in different ways, such as by rejecting, explaining away, or avoiding new information.

    Signs of Cognitive Dissonance

Everyone experiences cognitive dissonance to some degree but that doesn’t mean that it is always easy to recognize. Some signs that what you are feeling might be related to dissonance include:

Feeling uncomfortable before doing something or making a decision
Trying to justify or rationalize a decision you’ve made or action you have taken
Feeling embarrassed or ashamed about something you’ve done and trying to hide your actions from other people
Experiencing guilt or regret about something you’ve done in the past
Doing things because of social pressure or a fear of missing out (FOMO), even if it wasn’t something you wanted to do

The problem is that your typical California lib thinks he/she is the clear thinker and that we conservatives are the CD sufferers, “How can you claim to support freedom and democracy and vote for Hitler?”

Your typical California lib believes Newsom is “The Bomb”; his polices are a resounding success, he stands for a woman’s right to chose, he wants the rich fat cats to pay “their fair share”, he has kindness and compassion for the downtrodden (illegals and the homeless), he has empathy for trans people and wants codified protections for them. It does not matter that we keep running deficits, he spends money on the things that are important, lavish teachers salaries, race based hiring, fully funded universities (the hub of lib indoctrination) and free healthcare for illegals who deserve to partake in America’s beneficence. Plus, he is good looking, has a pretty wife, and can string 2 sentences together.

Since the left follows the axiom of ,”Your beliefs make you a better person, not your behavior”, they have the moral high ground and no amount of logic or reason will talk them off that ledge.
