California’s ‘foreclosure capital’ seeks to remedy poverty problem by handing out ‘free’ cash

BPR:

The California city once known as America’s foreclosure capital has decided to give out free cash to residents in an attempt to combat poverty.

Stockton will become the first U.S. city to experiment with Universal Basic Income, giving 100 residents $500 a month for 18 months – with no conditions or strings attached, Fox News reported.

The testing phase of the program, set to launch by 2019, allows recipients to spend the money on anything they want in the hopes of eventually ensuring that none of the 300,000 people living in the city lives in poverty.

Just 80 miles east of Silicon Valley, Stockton’s median household income of $49,271 is below the national $57,617, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates with one-in-four residents living below the poverty line in a city that was bankrupt in 2012.

  1. Damn. Stupid AND ignorant. Such people do not understand what wealth is or where wealth comes from. They do not understand money nor what money represents. All they see is poor people with no money, and cannot see that it isn’t the lack of money that makes poor people poor.

  2. What do you want to bet Stockton gets every homeless person to start calling Stockton home. Like flies to a pile of excrement.

At 27 the mayor should know better. He is either a progtard or has brain cancer. It amounts to the same thing but one is grounds for dismissal and the other qualifies him to run for governor of CA.

    > Isn’t trying to live on $6000 a year living in poverty?

Yes. Both teams of the uniparty league want this to fail. So they agree to fraudulent “experiments” that prove it didn’t work. (Just like they agree to fraudulent… oh, never mind.)

You (plural, not personal) may, also, expect it to fail. But that doesn’t mean fake “experiments” to “validate” fake news will win a rational argument.

The basic idea of “basic income” is to do away with all the communalist “social programs”. And replace them with a single, monetary, stipend. Just like every other government pay check.

For an “experiment” to be valid, it must test the hypothesis. To test “basic income”, the recipients would have to receive what is deemed an actual “minimum, sufficient income” in cash — and “social services” be cut off. Then you could see “Does it work?” — and “Is it cheaper than the cost of all those other government checks, written to all those apparatchiks, employed by all those social service agencies (oh, and the few checks that are actually to cover the ‘service’)?”. No Party member, in good standing — of any Party team — wants an actual answer to that.

    > There is no free money. Somebody else is getting up everyday and going to work so Stockton can take from them to give away.

Do you really think that if Stockton wasn’t giving “your” money away, that “your” government would give it back to you?

    > Finland tried that recently and is ending it after just 2 years.

No. The Finns tried the same “heads we win, tails you lose” fake “experiment”. And fake “news” reported the designed result.

  6. By Stockton’s own count in 2017, it had 1552 Homeless.

So I would suggest that it seems they are only handling 100 at the cost of $900K to get a bunch of Pro-Socialist Headlines. Because, the 1552+/- homeless would cost them $2.7+M.

Note: the 18 months of coverage, depending on when it starts would run out in early 2020. It would likely then be used as a Local, State, and National Campaign Agenda Issue promoting more for Votes

  7. Well, on the bright side, this will attract more dregs into California and away from other places. It will turn into another Muslim No-Go zone. Count on it.

  8. manbearpig No, the government won’t reduce EBT payments to reflect what Stockton is giving out. The government only reduces those programs to which people paid into, not those programs that give you someone else’s money.
