Canada: Ax-throwing club wants a liquor license

FOX: Organizers of a special ax-throwing league in Canada say they’d like to make the experience even more fun — by getting a license to serve alcohol.

As the Toronto Star asked, “What could possibly go wrong?”

The Backyard Axe-Throwing League brought in a safety expert to its six locations in Ontario within recent months, the newspaper reported. “We received glowing reviews on the safety to go ahead with the application for the liquor license,” CEO Matt Wilson said.  more

  1. I’m tired of outsiders rendering an opinion on what is safe and what is not. The pub knows what it’s getting into. There is always liability to consider, and the business and its insurer know that their financial survival is on the line. Let them decide – and if somebody is hurt then let them deal with the responsibility.

  2. Hi Left Coast Dan; While they may know what they’re getting into, that’s the owners you’re talking about not the patrons. I can imagine it’s 2:00 AM and while the bartender and the bouncer (with luck it’s Justin Trudeau going back to his first career after being thrown out of office) are distracted, one of the patrons sits up suddenly and says “I’ve got a great idea! Anyone have an apple?”

  3. @scr_north – that is exactly my point though. The owners, if they are interested in their business surviving and succeeding, are certainly thinking about stuff like that. And if they think it’s a good idea and are willing to shoulder the risk, which would certainly include some safety steps, then I don’t want people who have zero involvement and active imaginations to shove their opinions in. It happens all the time and it pisses me off.

  4. @LCDan I hear your Libertarian side and don’t disagree. However, the patrons are also subject to risk and count on the Club to get it right. But, if the Club gets it wrong the patrons’ risk is far more serious, even life ending. If wrong the Club is subject to suit, damages, loss of livelihood all better than dead.
