Canada: Cowichan Tribes member ordered to stop illegal dumping

A member of the Cowichan Tribes has been ordered to immediately stop dumping waste at an illegal landfill near the city of Duncan, B.C. Provincial documents estimate the amount of waste at the illegal dumping site exceeds 290,000 cubic metres.

“It’s a huge, toxic soup of tires, ties, plastic… demolition debris,” community advocate Peter Rusland teold Global News. Paul Johnson has more on the pollution prevention order and why it’s left community members frustrated with local government.

  1. One man’s illegal landfill is another man’s landscaping. One thing I have observed on most reservations is that the Tribal Members who fully support distribution of casino money indiscriminately more often than not also live like that, the ones who favor standards to be met do not.

  2. I live next to an American ‘native’ reservation with a casino.

Much of the rich ‘res’ crowd are horrible, drug infested and angry in general, driving their luxury and supercars horribly, knowing they will be ignored by the cops.

Indian ‘nations’ should be absorbed into America, and they should pay for gambling rehab…

  3. I was down at Franks Landing the other day with a friend. His brothers were passed out, one with a hypodermic needle hanging out of his arm. We went down there after fixing a flat tire to drop off a utility trailer full of a bunch of shit they had left in the driveway of my friend’s house. It was casino check day. The brother owns a million dollar lake front home and both he and his wife work full time jobs.
