Actually I can see this guy being nuts as an individual but we must also recognise Islam as a trigger in these types. In any event my country suffers from bad laws that will recognize mental illness as an excuse for a violent act but disregard the need for punishment as well. You can thank Pierre Trudeau (Justin the Youngers dad) for that when he changed the direction of criminal sentencing back in the 70’s and provincial and federal governments started appointing liberal judges to the bench. What should happen is the young man is found guilty of assault and attempted murder but with mental illness as a causal factor. He gets a sentence of X years with initial incarceration at a facility for the criminally insane where he’s treated and hopefully cured. He is then transferred to a medium security prison to serve the remainder of his sentence. That’s what should happen. What will happen is he’ll be treated at Chilliwack for a few months, judged “cured” and released. If Canada is lucky he’ll be deported back to Saudi Arabia.
