Canada Free Press:
Multiculturalism has gone well ahead of the assimilation process in Canada and it has to be made an issue this election. Public opinion polls—see here, here, and here—show most Canadians agree and want less immigration and more integration for the country.
This includes many immigrants like myself. Neil Bissoondath, Salim Mansur and former B.C. Liberal premier Ujjal Dosanjh, for instance, have for years chastised Ottawa’s elevation of multiculturalism above integration. As Dosanjh put it recently, official multiculturalism has enabled many immigrants today to act like “colonisers” who, instead of integrating into the common culture, try to “remake Canada in their own image.” In the long term, he concludes, this will be “extremely dangerous” for Canadian society. Having come from a country born out of ethnic secession (Malaysia, which lost Singapore in 1965) and which is still fraught with ethnic strife, I couldn’t agree more.
The problem of multiculturalism is in the division it promotes. Writing in his 1991 book, The Disuniting of America: Reflections on a Multicultural Society, the late former JFK-advisor Arthur Schlesinger warned that “[c]ountries break up when they fail to give ethnically diverse peoples compelling reasons to see themselves as part of the same nation.” Having witnessed the effects of two decades of mass immigration (just like Canada, the US had basically shut off immigration between the 1920s and 1960s) and the country’s abandonment of its melting-pot principles, he concluded that “[t]he cult of ethnicity exaggerates differences, intensifies resentments and antagonisms, drives ever deeper the awful wedges between races and nationalities…[t]he endgame is self-pity and self-ghettoization.” A strongly worded, but very fair analysis. more
Wait a sec, I thought multiculturalism was THE issue in ALL our affairs. At least that’s what we’re told to believe.
The “diversity of cultures” welcomed into civilized Western nations have no intention of assimilating. They just want running water, electricity and paved streets from which to continue practicing their native tribal aggressions.
The only thing that’s changed for them is to cease warring amongst their tribes, as there’s a new enemy….whitey.
Part of the big issue with bringing ‘refugees’ into the country is that we essentially bring them in as a charity, and without the expectation that they should assimilate. Legal immigrants were always expected to assimilate, as their reason for coming to USA was to reap the rewards of a new way and that included becoming like other Americans.
Be honest and call it divide and conquer, not multiculturalism. Is divide and conquer some form of hate speech in Canada
I will bet you all your money that they vote for the status quo.
They need to straighten out Quebec or give it/sell it to the French as that’s whom they seem more aligned to.
Thank you, Teddy Kennedy, “Lyin’of the Senate”, for the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act (PTUI!)
It’s being done on purpose. Anyone who denies it is either very stupid and naive or they are going along with the plan.
Quebec does not like france(a little thing about being abandoned)France looks down on quebecois (can’t even speak proper french)
@Huron, seems to me they don’t want to be Canadian though, do they? Did not know the French disliked them.
Whites are a distinct minority in the world soon, after open door borders, they will be a distinct minority in all individual countries!
Pierre Trudeau, Mike Pearson and the rest of the Liberal cabal are responsible for not only closing the doors to European immigration and swinging them open to Asian, African and everywhere else but for encouraging multiculturalism and maintaining their different societal values with Federal money while discouraging a melting pot approach that had served the country so well. It also didn’t hurt them grouping all the like immigrants together in urban voting blocs ensuring Liberal victories. His son is on the throne now and we can only pray that he goes down in ignominious defeat.
