USA Today, the nation’s fourth largest newspaper, says it’s joining The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times in not endorsing a presidential candidate this election.

A spokesperson for the paper told the Daily Beast on Monday that it will instead focus on providing “readers with the facts that matter and the trusted information they need to make informed decisions.”

That’s a stark difference from four years ago when USA Today broke with decades-old tradition to endorse Joe Biden for president. That endorsement claimed Donald Trump wasn’t a capable leader and that the U.S. was “dangerously off course.”

USA Today’s editorial board wrote that it decided to endorse back then—for the first time since 1982—because the 2020 election was was an “extraordinary moment” in history that required an “extraordinary response” from the paper.

“Biden is a worthy antidote to Trump’s unbounded narcissism and chronic chaos,” the paper told its readers.

Trump, 78, is by most accounts still the same man today as he was when USA Today printed its scathing editorial about him, but the paper has apparently had a change of heart in what its readers are looking for from it. MORE

  1. Someone has surely asked…
If Trump is such a threat to democracy, a man who will jail his political opponents as well as assorted unfriendly journalists, WHY are these papers not beating the drum loud and long for Harris in order to stave off a fascist dictatorship?

  2. WaPo has reportedly lost 200,000 subscribers since they did not endorse Harris. It’s costing the paper tens of millions. Or, in other words, a cup of coffee to billionaire Jeff Bezos.

  3. “Hollywood star Julia Roberts has narrated a new Kamala Harris commercial that is encouraging women to intentionally deceive their Trump-supporting husbands by secretly voting for the Harris-Walz ticket — in effect, canceling out their husbands’ votes.”

LOL. That’s pretty rich coming from a woman who has never had a real man. This is a pretty desperate move.

  4. Growing up we were told “be careful how you vote. On judgement day you’re going to be held accountable.” Thanks to those wise words I’ve never voted for a pro-choice candidate.

  5. The media does not lead, it follows. When their readership goes low enough, they’ll change like the wind.

The only reason the owners are witholding endorsements for Harris is because they have finally sniffed the wind and noticed the bad odor that millions of Americans have picked up long ago.

WP editors: Mr. Bezos we can’t just hang her out to dry…this is a very liberal newfspaper, sir.

Bezos: BULLSHIT. This newspaper is my investment with my money and I’m not going to let a skank ruin it all.

WP editors: But Mr. Bezos we all thought you liked her.

Bezos: Try not to be stupid. I spent 2 nights with her back in 2006, and I paid her well. That does not mean I liked her. You all can eff off out of here and try to find jobs with Vogue or Cosmopolitan or the New York Times. Now get out of here.
