In their rush to publish news of dictator Fidel Castro’s death, CNN accidentally left an editor’s note in their story referencing the possible death of President George HW Bush.
The story has been since edited to read, “Fidel Castro outlived six of those presidents, including Cold War warriors John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.”
Originally, however, the story read, “Fidel Castro outlived six of those presidents, [[[NOTE: change to seven if George H.W. Bush dies before Castro]]] including Cold War warriors John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.”
Oddly, CNN apparently thinks that George H.W. Bush has a greater change of dying than President Jimmy Carter, who was recently battling cancer before it went into remission.
An astute Reddit-user was able to catch the flub before CNN was able to edit the story. IOTW Report was the first website to report on CNN’s embarrassing mistake.
So they wrote it a while back, like most of their news.
Must have been Zucker’s wishful thinking. I’ll bet the liberals are stroking out to read John Kennedy’s name in the same sentence as “cold warrior” and Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
So this would qualify as fake news from a fake news site!? Just sayin’…….
Those obituary drafts are prepared ahead of time for very old celebrities – years ago a congressman read one of these for Bob Hope years before his death.
At least they remembered to take out the part about what to do if Florence Henderson died first.
What – too soon?
Another CNN mistake, how many does this make?
And in the meantime, Castro is still dead!!!
Jimmy Carter is not going to die soon. His contract is not up yet and he gets to retain his soul until then. Of course there might be an co-signer loophole clause in which case he might be soon reunited with Fidel.
