Columnist Says He Won’t Comply with Boulder’s Gun Ban

WFB: A newspaper columnist and nonprofit president announced last week he would not comply with a gun ban ordinance passed in his Colorado hometown.

Jon Caldara, Denver Post columnist and Independence Institute president, published a video and column declaring he would not surrender his firearm despite a newly implemented Boulder regulation requiring him to do so.

“At the beginning of January I became a criminal in my tolerant hometown of Boulder,” Caldara wrote for the Complete Colorado.

On Jan. 1, Boulder’s ban on so-called assault weapons went into effect. Caldara said he is in violation of the law now because he owns a rifle with a pistol grip that accepts detachable magazines—a commonly owned style of rifle in the United States—and the city’s ban makes possession illegal of it unless residents submit to police inspection and certification of their firearm. He said he is a law-abiding father of two who won’t submit to police investigation and simply wants to be left alone by the city.

“I have never been convicted or even charged with a crime in my 54 years of life, but this week I became a criminal,” he wrote. “I am no different than potentially thousands of other Boulderites who cannot bring themselves to submit to this ugliness. And yes, I know, most people today don’t see this as ugly or intolerant, but simply a reasonable thing to do about this ‘epidemic.’ After all, something needs to be done.”

As a result of his public opposition to the ordinance, Caldara said his daughter has become the victim of bullying at school.  more

  1. Courageous.

The Left means to control every aspect of our lives.

The average Democrat does not see their ultimate intention. And the Left – in league with a sympathetic and ideologically possessed media – do not want them to see it. And so, most will not.

You think they’re going after Trump.

No. They’re going after you, and Trump is just in their way.

One pull of the trigger will fire one smooth ball per minute.

Only those with approved militia status will be allowed to possess one.

  3. The State reserves, unto itself, the sole distributorship of violence.
    The State cannot tolerate competition.
Once allowed, by gangs, by individual thugs, or by earnest citizens protecting themselves, the State is revealed in all its shameful glory as hypocrite and incompetent – even if those commanding the levers of the State have no intentions towards hypocrisy and incompetence. Only the Totalitarian State can stride (like a Colossus) above hypocrisy and incompetence by the complete, and absolute, suppression of ALL (even the individual members of the Police and Armed Forces must live in the expectation of sudden death at the hands of a “tribunal” – thus in awe).

  4. So this guy was investigated by the FBI when he bought this gun likely, unless it was a private sale….but the Boulder PD need to inspect and do their own investigation.

The goal is to reduce the number of gun owners by making them felons so that they can’t own guns.

  5. If you want them then you’d better come loaded for bear…..you WILL have to take them.
If it comes to it, if it reaches that point then I will become proactive. I have no desire to harm some cop, my wrath will be directed at the filthy elected officials that pushed the unconstitutional law through.
They are going to cross a line that they’ll wish they didn’t. People are fed up with the constant attack on our rights.

  6. What if authorities attempting to make an example of such people simply disappeared? Better for it to happen to tyrants & their minions than to us and our families..

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”
