‘Country before my party’: Trump-supporting Georgia Democrat won’t resign after ‘outcry from the people’

Wa Ex: In a 180-degree turn, Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones, a Democrat, said Thursday he will not resign because of the backlash from his endorsement of President Trump.

Jones, 59, announced his support for the president on April 14, pointing to Trump’s “handling of the economy, his support for historically black colleges, and his criminal justice initiatives.”

The endorsement earned swift condemnation from fellow Democrats in Georgia, who vowed retribution. In the face of this criticism, Jones said he intended to resign and not seek reelection for Georgia House District 91 on Wednesday.

He had a change of heart on Thursday.

“Because [of] what you did for me, I am going to remain on the battlefield. I am going to complete my term. I am going to continue to put my country before my party, and I’m going to do everything I can to help Donald J. Trump get reelected,” Jones said in a video posted on social media, explaining that his decision was made after discussing it with his family and supporters. read more

  1. Moral courage.
Don’t see it much in the political class.
Or in media or academia, for that matter.

    Refreshing – and – hopefully – inspiring.

  2. Will acts like this save our country? I continue to have hope that small gains like this will mushroom into a movement to eradicate the evil from the left. Maybe not eradicated into extinction, but back into irrelevance for another few generations.

I pray that there are enough of us who plead with God to heal our land. We need to repent for our neglect in allowing the left to remove Him from our society.

If this truly is the end of times, as many feel it could be, I also pray that God’s will be done.
