DC Bans Churches From Handing Out Straws With Free Coffee

WFB:

Washington, D.C., will begin enforcing its ban on plastic straws on Jan. 1, which would penalize churches for offering free coffee if it comes with a stirrer.

The Department of Energy and Environment tweeted Thursday that Mayor Muriel Bowser has a “list of recyclables and compostables” banning plastic straws and stirrers.

However, businesses, churches, and nonprofits can hand out straws and coffee stirrers if they are made from hay.

  1. Just another thing for smugglers to profit from. ‘Rats already are proficient at sucking through anything that has a lumen. And, in all fairness, I suppose GOPers need no practice drinking any liquid from a stemmed glass./

  2. Just thinking outside of the box a little, but why don’t organizations collect those used needles given out by the government and discarded by junkies, kind of sterilize them, and use them for coffee stirrers? It would be a form of multi-tasking to solve a couple of different problems.

  3. Never lose sight of the logical conclusion of a law or other govt edict:

    — If you disobey, they will fine you.
    — If you don’t pay, they will arrest you.
    — If you resist arrest, they will beat you.
    — If you fight back, they will kill you.

They will, without compunction, kill you over a coffee stirrer.

  4. TDY to Washington DC after 9-11. One of the most deadly cities in America at the time. Homicide rate per 100K actually worse than casualty rate per 100K in effin shit hole of Iraq during war. Good to know DC politicians keep their eyes on the ball.
