DC police officers removed from special crime unit for taking guns without arrests, pursing warrants

JTN: The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has removed seven officers from a specialized violent crime team after an internal investigation found that the officers were seizing guns without making arrests or pursuing warrants.

“We have a responsibility to make the community safer and that includes taking bad guys to jail,” , police Chief Robert J. Contee said Friday. “While we stress the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions, we have an obligation to hold our members to a high standard in all that they do.” MORE HERE

  1. Desk duty or administrative leave? It looks like the cops investigating the cops are also guilty of not arresting those who have broken laws. The ones being slapped on the wrist are guilty of theft and falsifying reports.

  2. Waste of time on all fronts. Arrest the perps and they’ll be back on the street with another gun (or the same one returned to them) before the cop gets home for dinner.

And, just taking the gun away without arrest, go ahead, we’ll steal more.
