Denmark’s ‘Little Mermaid’ doused in red paint by whaling protesters

She deserved it! Because she has looked over the water and has said nothing to the whalers about their misdeeds!  The Little Mermaid has been a big defender of whaling her entire imaginary life!

Idiots.

Reuters: Denmark’s most famous landmark, “The Little Mermaid”, has been doused in red paint by anti-whaling activists.

“Danmark defend the whales of the Faroe Islands” was written in English on the ground in front of the sculpture, using the Danish spelling for the country.

Whaling close to shore is permitted in the islands, which lie between the mainland and Iceland and are a self-governing part of Denmark.

Danish police told Reuters they were investigating the incident as vandalism but did not know the identity of those responsible yet.

The statue, which depicts the little mermaid from Danish author Hans Christian Andersen’s tale by the same name, has been damaged several times including being decapitated twice.

  1. I was in Denmark a couple weeks ago for business. One of the guys I was working with, a Greek, said don’t go see the mermaid, it’s a complete waste of time.

  2. Copenhagen was one of the weirdest places I’ve ever been. And that was in 1979.

Government vacated their military base and hippie like creatures were squatting there. Haight Ashbury of Europe. Hashish was abundant.

    Food sucked too.

Saw the little mermaid. It was a ‘so what’ moment. Much like the trash filled hole in the ground in Plymouth MA that happens to have a rock in it. No disrespect to the pilgrims but…

  3. If that mermaid statue is said to promote whaling, rip it out. There is no justification, in our world today, for whaling on any level.
Whales are some of the most glorious of God’s great creation and should be honored and cherished as such. They suffer from sonar and underwater communications- we make their life hell, I can only imagine. Leave them in peace.
Same with the japanese, with their whaling activity. Screw them, too.
Whales live longer than us, and their intelligence might equal, or even surpass ours- they just don’t build things.

    Let them be free.

  4. Whaling is nothing to blubber about.

Besides. How am I supposed to light my house?

C’mon. Are we seriously talking about an 18th century issue?

Drop by your local Home Depot and ask where they keep the whale Oil.

    Whale Oil Beef Hooked.
