DC: WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Tuesday night it was canceling grant funds to California’s high-speed rail project.
According to a statement, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) plans to terminate $929 million in federal grant funds yet to be paid for the California high-speed rail project initially planned to connect the L.A. Basin to the San Francisco Bay Area.
In addition, the Department announced it is exploring every legal option to obtain the $2.5 billion in federal funds FRA previously granted California for the now-defunct project.
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the scaling back of the state’s high-speed rail project in his first State of the State speech last week. The price of the project skyrocketed from $45 billion to $77 billion.
“Let’s be real,” Newsom said. “The current project, as planned, would cost too much and take too long.”
However, after his announcement, President Donald Trump excoriated the project, tweeting on Feb. 13, “We want that money back now. Whole project is a “green” disaster!” more here
So then that frees up the $929 Mil in Fed Grant dollars to be added to the $1.4 Bil for the Border Wall. Gavin Newsom should LOVE that !!
So I guess they’ll be goin off the rails on a slower crazy train then.
We’re not getting that money back.
Leftists take, they don’t give back.
It wont be that long before he comes to the Feds to fund another project, at that time, he can repay everything the state owes with intrest or fork off!
Amazing! Under any other administration they would have continued to fund the canceled project. As far as we know they might have to. It will be in the ninth circuit today.
What?
Newsom didn’t get his cut?
Or it wasn’t big enough?
Everybody (outside of CA, of course) knew the whole thing was a scam – another way for the CA politicians to steal and reward their cronies.
So – what changed?
Newsom had an epiphany? Smells kind of far-fetched.
izlamo delenda est …
Federalize the California National Guard and order them to seize 3 billion dollars worth of beachfront property to be handed over to the indigent, homeless and open-air poopers!
No high speed train? Damn, looks like I’m stuck in Lodi again waiting for the midnight special to shine its ever lovin’ light on me.
And speaking of recouping money: This ridiculous claim that the U.S. “should just seize all of Chapo’s $14B” is a fantasy. Anyone here do any research on that? I have–just about a half hour’s worth. First off, the claim that Chapo even has/had $14B is based on the best guesstimate of what his organization(s) accrued over 30 years of drug mfg/distribution and is considered a gross number, not net (after vast expenditures on operating expenses and protection). Chapo was chopped from the “wealthiest” list a long time ago because his personal wealth was estimated at below $1B. What remains of any of that wealth has been long acquired by his kids, who apparently fight over it constantly. Most of his front companies are in Mexico and they aren’t doing so well, either. Don’t get your hopes up that there’s this stash of billions of dollars just waiting for the U.S. to seize. It doesn’t exist. So, why is Cruz and company credited with a “brilliant” plan to seize it?
It may be worth the money if Trump insists that to keep the original 2.5 Billion California must do two things. The first is to allow Federal Auditors access to the entire Hi Speed Rail project to determine where the money was spent, who got it, was it fair value for money, was there any fraud or misrepresentation etc etc and to publish a non-redacted report that the public can read.
The second is to establish voter ID laws approved by the Federal Government that would include, but not limited to a Federally funded photo id, and annual cleaning up of the voter rolls under Federal supervision and limitations on so-called vote harvesting after the election.
Expected the cut off of fed money. Did not expect Trump to ask for the 2.5 billion already spent back.
Sorry cali… but this is some funny ish to wake up to.

Sure we will, the Feds won’t give California any more money for anything. Get out your popcorn, California is on its knees. Gavin will start crying here soon. Only thing he can do is sue and lose. LOL! Mean while no company dares move here to do business.
@src: I don’t believe the Feds have to get permission to audit California Rail system. It’s federal money. Trump can bring Newsome to his knees and really fast.
A beautiful bitch slap to Pelousy and Kamela.
Cancel research grants to the tune of 3.5 billion. Most research grants are worthless anyway.
