Despite Being on Trump SCOTUS List, Ted Cruz Would Rather Fight in the Senate

Dan Bongino:

On Sunday, Senator Ted Cruz appeared on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo to discuss his new book on the Supreme Court, titled “One Vote Away: How a Single Supreme Court Seat Can Change History.”

Towards the end of the segment, Bartiromo asked Cruz the inevitable question of whether he would accept a Supreme Court nomination if President Trump were to offer it to him, since Cruz was included on the list of justices Trump would consider appointing should the court have another opening during Trump’s presidency.

Cruz answered that he would not:

“It is deeply honoring. It’s humbling to be included in the list. I’m grateful that the president has that confidence in me. But it’s not the desire of my heart. I want to be in the political fight. I want to be fighting to nominate and confirm three, four, five principled, constitutionalist justices. But that’s not where I want to serve. I want to stay fighting right where I am in the U.S. Senate.”

  1. Don’t give up on old Ted. I think he wants to run for President again and Trump has shown him how to win.
Check out some of his Twitter feed (I only see what’s pulled up on Twitchy).
He now knows that any Repub nominee needs to be willing to fight back and be snarky with the lefty loonies.

Just a passing thought from my small observations.

  3. After watching what happened to Justice Kavanaugh, I’m betting there are a lot of people on POTUS Trump’s list who quail at the very thought of the confirmation process. I don’t think Sen.Cruz could make it through. Too much political baggage. The Left would make a lot of hay of it.

  4. @ladygun, I wrote my first letter to my Congress critter Cornyn after his pro vote on the omnibus spending bill. I received a reply that was so full of weasel words and so simplistic I was flat out insulted. I have not voted for the despicable SOB since.
