CTH: Reuters is reporting on an interesting dynamic within the vaccine mandate as it pertains to Amtrak. Reading between the lines tells us something very specific about this vaccine mandate that we have discussed here, and it’s starting to show.
The article itself points to how Amtrak is suspending their vaccine mandate as a result of the federal courts blocking enforcement of any mandate pending litigation. From their perspective as a federal contractor, Amtrak is now in a position to cease the vaccine requirement until the legal issues are resolved. However, there’s an element touched upon that needs to be considered. more here
At least AMTRAK is smart enough to realized that those 500 people are important to the operation. Many organizations would let the important people go but keep the bureaucrats to oversee the departure of the important people.
The number of people who are now Vax Exempt is ridiculous for this thing to be serious. and the list gets bigger every week!

That pretty much leaves the “little guy”… you know, the hard-working, over-taxed-payer as the target for any vaccinations!
Herd Mentality good.
Herd Immunity bad.
There’s two basic tiers of labor, skilled and unskilled. Unskilled operates the machines, skilled makes them work. Unskilled can be done by most people, skilled requires talent, training, and experience that are difficult to replace and have a long learning curve if you try.
I am skilled labor, and I will not comply.
Same with my peers.
They could survive without one or two of us, but not all of us, and they know it.
They’ve been spending a LOT of time figuring out how to avoid the “mandate” as a result.
Amtrak is probably in the same place.
The ticket takers are jabbed, the machinist tending the rolling stock are not, although they are not numerous.
Which do you think would be easier to replace?
…it’s almost like the more you know, the less likely you are to get jabbed…
Amtrak is where people go to isolate.
True, TRF. “Jab for thee, but not for me”
“…95.7% of Amtrak’s 17,000 employees are either fully vaccinated or have an accommodation…”
I’d like to know the split percentages there. Just guessing, I’d say the accomodated well outnumber the jabbed.
CTH makes a good point, as per usual.
If only 500 out of 17,000 get laid off and that causes a disruption in services, it means there are an awful lot of those 17K that are not needed.
