Dick’s is down. Expected to remain flaccid in sales future

Pacific Pundit: Anti-Gun Dick’s Sporting Goods business down, future bleak.

You’ve got to love karma when it comes back to bite you in the ass. Dick’s Sporting Goods, the liberal, pro-gun control corporation business is way down since banning “assault style” weapons. Their prospects for the future look bad as well and I couldn’t be any happier. When are the Dick Heads going to learn that fascist, anti-gun policies my please liberals, but it pisses off everyone else. 20% of the country is considered liberal. The other 80% don’t support Dick’s anti-gun policy.

Dick’s Sporting Goods announced on Wednesday that their recent endorsement of gun control policies and hiring of gun control lobbyists has hurt their sales of firearms and hunting accessories.

The company did not reveal specifics about how much their firearms business had fallen during their first quarter earnings call but said it was directly connected to their decision to embrace certain gun control policies.  MORE

I wasn’t going to go there, but you a right. But consider this. Dickless sells one hell of a lot of Tenny Runners. The Sport Authority just folded up all it’s stores. Big 5 is still hanging around. For those that don’t by your athletic shoes on line, who’s left. I shopped at Dickless several years ago. For athletic shoes. I’ll never give them a red cent from here on out.

  2. I buy 4 to 5 pair of athletic shoes a year, running, tennis, cross training. In the last 5 years I have made every purchase on line. Last year a Dick’s opened by close to where I live so I checked it out, a nice variety but pretty pricey.

A rising stock price is not necessarily a clear indication of a profitable business model. I thought what they did was a mistake, but we shall see.

I’m one of those old fashion ass holes that needs to try on shoes before I purchase. Sizes are not consistent. I goto Bass Pro Shops or Sportsmen’s Warehouse. I like supporting Sportsmans Warehouse. A great store facing the onslaught of BassPro, and a few others.

  4. “Dicks doesn’t have to sell firearms to be successful. Sports Authority sold no guns.

    Oh wait.”

Really curious where your going with that abstract statement. Please define.

  5. In the south and southeast, Academy Sports seems to do a lot more business than Dick’s and other competitors in the areas I’m familiar with. From looking online, Dick’s, Cabela’s and Bass Pro all seem to have pretty steep pricing on most items to me. Bass Pro stores are usually pretty interesting to walk through at least and they usually have a lot invested in the “atmosphere” of the stores I’ve been in. Academy stores usually are pretty basic but they do have a lot of merchandise.

In Gwinnett ocunty GA, Gander Mountain opened a huge store a couple of years ago about a mile from an Academy Sports. It was a very nice store with a rustic storefront featuring mammoth rough hewn log beams that had to cost a fortune. But their prices were so high that the store closed in about a year.

The parking lot never had more than a dozen or so cars. Even when they started marking down things 30 and 40%, not many people were buying because they were just coming into line with Academy’s prices.

Their gun prices were about 25% higher than Academy and their ammo was often twice the price compared to Academy or Walmart. I’m guessing that the exorbitant prices were why Gander Mountain (the entire corporate entity) went bankrupt last year – little traffic equals little sales.

Dick’s built a new store in Athens, GA a couple of miles from an always busy Academy Sports a year or so ago. I never went to Dick’s but have heard the parking lot is nowhere near as crowded as Academy’s most of the time. Based on their gun “policy” I’ll never bother to even go check the new Dick’s store out.
