Dollar General is actually very smart. I wondered when they started building them in rural areas why they were the first to do it.
I like DG.
“… you didn’t build that”
Dollar General is like a mongoloid Wal Mart that got shrunk in the dryer and left out in a field away from interactions with other human beings….
When DG opened a store in my tiny burg (pop 650) several years ago it was like getting a mini Walmart in the neighborhood! For a lot of necessities, it was no longer a 20 mile trip each way to the nearest actual Walmart.
Reminds me of the line from a movie, the title of which I cannot remember, “build it and they will come.” In the case of Dollar General, it seems to be true. I’ve been through many small towns in Michigan where there is one or more of them. Good bargains for a quick shopping trip.
@willysgoatgruff, LOL! Sometimes it’s a jumbled treasure hunt inside, but at least they’ve got heart. Would be nice if they eventually gave the monstrosity Walmart some competition. BTW, Funny skit.
In my small city of 20,000 we have 2 DG’s on either end of town, and they opened a distribution center in the local industrial park. It’s an invasion I tell ya!
The parking lots are well lit and that makes it easier to tell if your drug dealer is trying to short you.
Plus, the women showing up at 11 AM in jammies and house shoes will give you a hummer for $20. They’ll tell you it’s $40, don’t fall for it.
What am I seeing here? Is that rotund woman Diane from other “It’s A Southern Thing” videos. How could that be? It looks like her, but maybe it’s her sister. I’m so confused.
We have 4 different “dollar” type stores here(pop. ~8,000) When the last opened several years ago, W/M said fuck it and closed their store.
I live within two miles of two DG in a town of 2000…Nice place but it resulted in the failure of our local grocery meaning no meat, no veggies, no medical items etc…Milk only in gallon size..not as great as I thought..
The stores are invariably junky, understaffed and you better watch the expiration dates. Still, they are often the only game in town.
My Uncle said, “You are isolated!”
“What’s that mean, Uncle?”
“You are 15 miles from the Walmart!”
“I don’t go there — I go to the Hy-Vee in Springfield.”
“That’s 50 miles away!”
“Yeah. It takes 45 minutes to get there.”
“I could never be that isolated!”
“I’m isolated sitting on my front porch. Isolated on my property. But I’m not quite, as you call it, isolated.”
“I need to be close to stuff. I got doctor issues. I HAVE to be close to the Hospitals in town!”
“Those are about 32 miles away.”
“Yeah.”
“How long does it take you to get there?”
“Two and a half hours. Sometimes three.”
After decimating all the Mom and Pop stores, W/M said fuck it and closed their stores.
Left a lot of turf for DG,,,

Your thinking of WalMart…
Left a lot of turf for DG,,,
There is a Dollar Store Market in my area and I do shop there a couple times a month. Very convenient, more customers than a typical DG and makes me wonder why they don’t open more of them?
