Donald Trump Names Rep. Mark Meadows His Chief of Staff

Bye, Mick!

Breitbart: President Donald Trump announced Friday night that Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) would become his new chief of staff.

Meadows, who had already decided not to run for re-election to the House of Representatives, will replace acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.

“I am pleased to announce that Congressman Mark Meadows will become White House Chief of Staff. I have long known and worked with Mark, and the relationship is a very good one,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Mulvaney preferred to remain as the “acting” chief of staff, admitting that the paycheck was better, as he was at first the Director of the Office of Management and Budget for the Trump administration. MORE

  1. While I like the heck out of Meadows, Mulvaney becoming a special envoy to Northern Ireland is a head scratcher. Is this a super secret agent position? I don’t remember being consulted on any of this.

  2. joe6 — Yeah, I’m wondering (surprised, disappointed) at that one, too. Could be Mulvaney negotiated that for himself in exchange for serving dual roles at CBFP and the OMB, and then being pulled over for the CoS role (all in three years). Can’t think of another more Irish-American than Mick Mulvaney.

  3. joe6 – I found a clue at the end of the Breitbart link (different thread). Apparently there is a strategy for placing Mulvaney in his new role; to help N.Ireland thread the Brexit needle.
