PALM SPRINGS, Calif. —There was a sign in front of the “Rainmaker” fountain in this resort town on Monday afternoon: “This Fountain is Dry for the Drought. Saving Water is Mandatory.”
By the time you read this, that statement might not be true.
The Palm Springs City Council voted unanimously last week to turn the city’s fountains back on, following the local water agency’s reversal of its strict no-fountains rule.
Because they’re special, sillies!

Do any of the rest of you have trouble drumming up any sympathy for a state which tries to live like it is not situated in a dessert climate ? I am having trouble playing the world’s smallest violin for them.
Without flowing water a fountain is just a large chunk of ugly concrete.

Apparently drought measures don’t apply to the Stanford Hospital. I was there and they have a huge fountain going full blast.
