  1. Yeah, read this earlier today.

They lost me now. It’s my default search engine only because Opera won’t allow Startpage to fill that role. So I have a bookmark for SP. I will not use Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Bing, or Wikipedia, and now not DDG.

Wikipedia search engine? WTH? that has to be full of misinformation if it’s anything like the website.

Anyone know any dirt on resulthunter . com as a search engine? I’ve used it a few times now and it seems OK, but know nothing about it.

  2. DuckDuckGo is useless for all but the most basic of searches. To have even a chance of finding something worth finding that requires a little bit of muscle, I still have to rely on Google, even though I know the results may be tainted. If anyone knows of a real alternative to Google and DuckDuckGo, I’d love to hear it.

  3. @ Justice for Juicy!

Startpage is trustworthy as far as I know. Basically an anonymous query when you use it. Says it doesn’t keep a record of your searches.

As soon as my previous post gets cleared – and I’m sure it will – you’ll see I ask about resulthunter search engine. I’ve used it, but don’t know anything about it’s privacy yet.

  4. @Μολων Λαβε — DuckDuckGo has a browser for Android phones and tablets (and maybe for Apple iOS but I don’t go there). I don’t use it on my phone because it’s awkward, and I use Opera instead.

DDG has been my default search engine for quite a while, but as of today I’m giving Yandex a try even though it’s published by Russians. I’ve seen several comments elsewhere giving it good marks both for comprehensive results and for no “filtering”.

  5. Claudia, I have found my startpage to be on “family” filter pretty often.

If you check the settings, you can see to turn that off.

It does find things google won’t show you, though. So I’m happy with it.

  6. I also recommend Startpage. Have been using it from its outset until DDG. Now, have returned to SP after hearing the news today.

Also, StartMail is really good if you need a reliable (or secondary} email account at around $50/year.

  7. I told ddg to go
have used yandex, and it gives good results, but is probably not going to be available soon.
I tried searx earlier today, and I’d like to use that, but unfortunately, my Waterfox browser won’t let it be my default search. So for now I’m using Ecosia, or going to searx webpage and searching from there.

  8. I use Brave Browser most of the time. It cuts down on ads popping up to quite an extent. And seems to keep sites from complaining about my using an ad-blocker. I switch back and forth between Brave and Vivaldi Browser. I also use “Dog Pile” which is another meta-search site as is duckduckgo.

  9. I switched to Brave a year ago, did wonders eliminating pop up ads. Unfortunately they use DDG as their browser so it is what it is.

    Fuck the Duck…

What’s with the avatars? I sorta acknowledge the angry squidward personality but my nose looks like a hard on…

That may be appropriate also since I have one against every commie ever born…
