Michelle Malkin: The numbers don’t lie. Across the entertainment industry, viewers and fans are tuning out. It’s no coincidence ratings are cratering as unhinged celebrities crank up their anti-Trump and anti-American antics.
Pro tip, Tinseltownies: Swapping your jazz hands for middle fingers and waving resistance fists at your customer base is bad for business. Let us count the waning ways.
Emmy emetics. Who wanted to see smirking Stephen Colbert lead a cast of Botoxed starlets and men in hot pants, handing out TV industry awards to diamond-draped elites hoisting up their gilt statues as emblems of victory on behalf of the hegemonically oppressed? Not as many as the boob-tube titans had hoped! The show’s overall viewership of 11.4 million tied an all-time low; the key ratings demographic of 18-49 adults sunk 10 percent lower than last year’s historic low. Most of America had better things to do than watch a privileged cabal of left-wing, coastal one-percenters preening indulgently about their progressivism. Conservative actor James Wood had the response of the night to the Emmy ego-thon, noting that “the stunning lack of political diversity in Hollywood is interesting, when you consider their consumer base is so evenly divided.”
Oscars’ abyss. Earlier this year, the Academy Awards show earned the second-lowest viewership ratings in its history. Program host Jimmy Kimmel and other celebs turned their stage and red carpet into Trump-bashing soapboxes for anti-cop rants, open borders pleas and Quran promotion.
Box office beatdown. Hollywood’s summer movie season launched more duds than North Korea’s Rocket Man. By Labor Day weekend, revenue plunged “nearly 16 percent over last year, the steepest decline in modern times,” according to the Hollywood Reporter, adding that “(a)ttendance also plummeted, and is almost assured of hitting a 25-year low in terms of the number of tickets sold, according to Box Office Mojo.” Variety dubbed it “the worst the movie industry has seen in more than a decade.”
I don’t want my MTV. The network that used to broadcast music videos now has a hard time attracting eyeballs to its marquee Video Music Awards. Go figure. Its 10th annual awards show was “the least-watched one in its history,” marking the “fourth year in a row that the network has seen a decline in the crown jewel of its annual calendar,” according to the Associated Press. more
Great article! The libtards shoot their mouth off– I spend no money on their films, music or other products.
We went to see Close Encounters about 2 weeks ago. Enjoyable but wasn’t as digitally cleaned up as I’d hoped (I saw the 1930s Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein some years back in theater, Blu-Ray quality, and they were unbelievably sharp and stunning). But luckily CE3K did not have the tacked-on first re-release ending inside the UFO that the studio made Spielberg crap out. The early scene in the ATC tower is still one of my favorite movie scenes ever.
Unforgiven was playing at the same time but I saw it when it was out and have DVD. Anyway, this will likely become a bigger thing…releasing old classics to get more people to come who otherwise won’t come see new crap.
However, I may well go see Infinity War when it comes out, just to see how many Marvel characters Thanos slaughters.
Yeah…a few I’d go see…

People will always need and seek entertainment. But they won’t pay YOU to provide it.
There are too many good books to read to give anything to these commie bastards.
Same thing is happening to the NFL. President Trump nailed it when he said those flag protesting players should be fired and told to get the hell out of the stadium.
They can protest on their own time, but they are representing their company when they are at work – same as any of the rest of us are.
There are strict rules about how they celebrate touchdowns and the uniforms they wear, why not rules against divisive, stupid protesting?
There is no pleasure in this article. It is meaningless that their ratings drop off when they still have tens of.millions of dolts watching them. So instead of making 25 million a year they make 22 million a year…
The only thing that would balance the scales would be to release Charlie Manson from prison with a suitcase full of knives and an album full of photos of his Hollywood targets.
Why would I waste my time watching someone insinuate that I am stupid for having my belief system?
In reality, they are the stupid ones for believing they can insult their customer base without backlash.
When large swaths of potential customers actively and gleefully root for their demise, shouldn’t they reconsider their behavior?
If my dislike of their arrogant condescension could be evaluated, those numbers would be even lower.
I find myself watching old TV classics and B&W movies from the 40’s and 50’s when I have the TV on. Can’t stomach the majority of these new shows in the least, let alone those that try to slip out that leftist message.
Rarely go to the movies anymore and we go when there is a new super hero flick. Sorry, but me and the Mrs are geeks at heart too and seeing the comics on the big screen I grew up with is too much of a lure for me. But they are few and far between and perfectly happy to deprive Hollywood of my hard earned dollars. We used to go about 10-12 times a year, now its about 3-4.
Oh and don’t forget NFL ratings and attendance are getting hammered big time right now too!
Hollywood used to produce movies that had original storylines using actors that were war hero’s and had high moral standards. Now we have actresses that get popular with “leaked” pornos and actors that make millions off of shootem-up action movies and once they are off the set lambaste the population about gun control.
Digital effects and processing have over-shadowed plot, dialog and talent.
Seems like every movie today has to have the obligatory slo-motion explosion with people getting launched ahead of the flame front without getting burned. So tiresome.
The older movies made you think. Trying to mesmerize the audience with flashy effects drowned out with 120 Decibels of noise is not a substitute.
Aside from the other crimes Hollywood is guilty of, When did the musical score volume begin overriding the dialogue? I am getting deafer, but I have a hear the dialogue because of the constant noise that either didn’t exist before or was sufficiently in the background.
I can’t hear the dialogue. Damned autocorrect.
The financial decline of loudmouthed, opinionated, self important Hollywood twits can’t happen soon enough or to a more deserving group of assholes. Yes, they have the right to free speech and the right to suffer the consequences thereof. Suffer bitches
Keep it up, hollywood; one day you can all collaborate and write a tell-all book.
Can’t title it “What Happened” though; already done.
Fuck Hollywood… They want the entire country to be like Hollywood, run by tyrants and propped up by ass kissers.
There used to be an old Hollywood rule: Want to send a message, write a telegram.
The Demmys.
I don’t watch democrats giving democrats awards.
