Evidence of THC found in Colorado town’s water supply

WYFF4: (CNN) —Colorado may be home to legalized recreational marijuana, but you won’t find any pot shops in the town of Hugo, where such businesses are not permitted.

Yet, somehow, evidence of tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC, has been found in the town’s water supply, officials said Thursday.

Field tests revealed presumptive positive results for THC, the principal psychoactive chemical in cannabis, Officer Michael Yowell of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said at a news conference Thursday.

Testing continues to determine the level of concentration, he said. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI are assisting Lincoln County’s investigation.

It has not been confirmed that the potential contamination was deliberate, Yowell said. But signs of tampering were found on one of the five main wells that supplies water to the town of 720 people about 100 miles southeast of Denver.  MORE

  1. Well, yeah, also you’d find pretty much any other med used by the local population in the water supply. Guaranteed it’s got a much higher level of synthetic hormones form oral birth control than any other contaminant.

  2. Depending on the water system there, could well be that people are pissing THC (and everything else) into the municipal supply and it isn’t filtered out. If ALL the town’s water comes from wells and isn’t recycled, I could see why the story ignores the possibility. If not…

  3. It was probably the lab tech that was contaminated. Cross contamination of samples and compromised samples happen all the time.

He probably didn’t wash his hands after he burned that quick one on his smoke break.

  4. Can THC ingested by drinking in the water affect you? I thought you had to burn (smoke) or at least heat up (bake) the THC to make it active when inhaled or ingested.

  5. THC is an oil? Oil and water don’t mix?
A curing method for pot is to submerge it in water, stripping it of oxygen for a week or so, pull it out, the plant material is dead, leaving behind the cured buds. It’s called water cure.
I don’t see oil and water mixing, oil can be in water, but it won’t be in suspension.

  6. You’re only allowed, now, to collect two barrels of rainwater in the socialist republic of CO. So you are forced to drink their shit if you don’t have a well permit. They probably figure if you won’t smoke it and become all jelly-brained like the rest of the citizens, they will get it into your system one way or another.
It’s not like they don’t have enough effeminate men already. Maybe they are going for some kind of a record.

  7. Eternal, emulsions are critical to many things you like to eat.
Water and oil do mix, if they are mixed. Just pouring oil in water results in little mixing. Once mixed, oil and water stay mixed fro a very long time. Note how long it takes mayonnaise to separate.
