Ex-Bolivian President Morales Accepts Offer Of Asylum From Mexico

OAN: Former Bolivian President Evo Morales has accepted Mexico’s offer of asylum. Mexican officials officially granted the move Monday. This comes one day after Morales resigned as president, following calls to step down amid growing unrest in the region.

Mexico’s foreign minister claimed Morales’ life was in danger, and called on Bolivia to offer safety for the former leader. The socialist commander stepped down Sunday amid ongoing protests in the region and calls from his own government to resign. read more

  1. He will be safe in mexico as long as his contacts in bolivia are still alive and in business. Once his supply dries up there are no promises. He could look for a professorship at Berkeley. They like his type.

  2. Shit must really be bad if he’s going to Mexico for safety.

He needs to be careful if he goes out in public or somebody might steal that Chachi from Happy Days haircut he’s still rocking.

  4. So much more to know about how the USA interferes to overthrow un-co-operative leaders in other countries.

“HERE IS ALL THE PROOF NEEDED TO KNOW MORALES GOT OUSTED BY EITHER THE U.S. OR SOMEONE ELSE WHO PAID OFF BLACKWATER TO DO IT.
Here is a capture from a press meeting with the “rebels” afterward. Sometimes, it only takes two pictures to tell the whole story, Morales was not ousted by “rebels”, no, they were PAID MERCENARIES. So who paid these mercenaries? Whoever it is, is REALLY BIG, big enough to convince 4 countries to deny him the use of their airspace as he fled. WHO WOULD THAT BE?”

Remember the Boston Marathon gang? Here is the OTHER half of this report!
[Color photos show the same (Skull and teeth)insignia on the mercenaries’ clothing in Boston and in Bolivia.]

“Gee, the “rebels” in Bolivia are dressed an awful lot like the guys who did the Boston Marathon bombing! CAN YOU SAY BLACKWATER???”

  5. This is now the second time Mexico has stepped in to “rescue” socialist leaders trapped by their political miscalculations. Some leaders of the recent coup attempt in Ecuador are still holed-up in the Mexican Embassy in Quito.

In accepting asylum, Morales’ options are reduced. He cannot be seen as attempting to interfere in any way in Bolivian politics. If he does do so, he could be deported back to Bolivia. Now, the chances of that happening anytime in the next four years (AMLO only has five years as president) are pretty slim, but if he embarrasses AMLO or otherwise makes AMLO’s life complicated, he is gone on the next plane.

Mexico is a lot nicer than most other alternatives, like Venezuela, Cuba or Nicaragua. He is probably worth billions, after 12 years of graft and corruption, so I am sure France or Switzerland will take him, but I think he will wait to make sure his options of returning to his old gig are definitely gone.

Bolivia: The OAS and US Help Overthrow Another Latin American Government
    By Leonardo Flores
    Global Research, November 13, 2019

“The coup was carried out over three weeks after the October 20 elections, but it was months, if not years in the making. The United States first began targeting Evo Morales in 2001 – five years before being elected president – when the US Embassy in La Paz warned that his political base needed to be weakened. Afterwards, USAID began funding right-wing political parties and “civil society” organizations that would feature heavily in attempts to overthrow President Morales.”

“The desire to overthrow Morales has existed for years, but more immediate plans were finalized in the weeks before the election. Bolivian media outlet Erbol published leaked audio of conversations held from October 8 and 10 between civic leaders, former military officials and opposition politicians who discussed “a plan for social unrest, before and after the general elections, with the aim of preventing President Evo Morales from remaining” in office. One opposition politician mentioned being in close contact with Senators Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Bob Menendez.”

Trump Lauds CIA Coup in Bolivia, Threatens More of the Same Elsewhere
    by Stephen Lendman

“In response to the CIA-orchestrated coup against democratically reelected Bolivian President Evo Morales — staged to eliminate democratic rule in the country, wanting it transformed into a US vassal state — Trump lauded what happened.

He turned truth on its head, praising “the Bolivian military (for) abiding by its oath to protect not just a single person, but Bolivia’s Constitution (sic),” adding:

“We are now one step closer to a completely democratic, prosperous and free Western Hemisphere (sic)” — code language for aiming to replace legitimate governments in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua by similar actions.”

  8. Whatever you say, crazy pants.

Was Common Dreams, Truthout or the Democratic Underground unavailable.

I would love for Trump to be undermining murderous Communist governments everywhere in the world. But he’s not because he’s not an ideologue.

So that’s one CodePink article and one nutbag Progressive Radio Network one.

  9. A murderous Communist government exists in the US Congress right now, trying to overthrow the Republic and Trump himself. Who really needs “worthless” lithium anyway?

After Morales Ousted in Coup, the Lithium Question Looms Large in Bolivia
The overthrow of the elected leader cannot be understood without a glance at the nation’s massive reserves of this crucial mineral.
    by Vijay Prashad
“Bolivia’s President Evo Morales was overthrown in a military coup on November 10. He is now in Mexico. Before he left office, Morales had been involved in a long project to bring economic and social democracy to his long-exploited country. It is important to recall that Bolivia has suffered a series of coups, often conducted by the military and the oligarchy on behalf of transnational mining companies. Initially, these were tin firms, but tin is no longer the main target in Bolivia. The main target is its massive deposits of lithium, crucial for the electric car.

Over the past 13 years, Morales has tried to build a different relationship between his country and its resources. He has not wanted the resources to benefit the transnational mining firms, but rather to benefit his own population.”
