14 Comments on Falling Asleep On A Plane Is Fine, Unless You’re The Pilots
Pilot in Command 32 years old with only 3000 total hours flight time? I think I see your problem. If you think this was bad, just wait until United’s DEI takes hold.

In Japan, the Yakuza are reputed to have a practice that may be helpful here. If you break the rules or otherwise seriously piss off the boss, you lose one finger joint. And you have to cut it off yourself.

This is a common hazard on planes with sophisticated autopilots. My little Cessna requires full time hand flying. If I fell asleep, I’d know it soon enough.

On a Marine Corp C-130 flight from Yuma to MCAS Beaufort I got bored sitting doing nothing in my web seat. The flight deck crew said earlier if we were interested to come up to the flight deck for the nickel tour. I did, but the entire flight deck crew was asleep. I went back to my web seat in the cargo hold and joined them.

They’re lucky they didn’t wake up dead!
