Director Comey even conceded that former Secretary Clinton was “extremely careless” and strongly suggested that her recklessness very likely led to communications (her own and those she corresponded with) being intercepted by foreign intelligence services.
Yet, Director Comey recommended against prosecution of the law violations he clearly found on the ground that there was no intent to harm the United States.
In essence, in order to give Mrs. Clinton a pass, the FBI rewrote the statute, inserting an intent element that Congress did not require. The added intent element, moreover, makes no sense: The point of having a statute that criminalizes gross negligence is to underscore that government officials have a special obligation to safeguard national defense secrets; when they fail to carry out that obligation due to gross negligence, they are guilty of serious wrongdoing. What seems especially disturbing about this is that virtually no one is surprised by the FBI “recommendation.” Comey outlined what was needed for a prosecution (intent or gross negligence), proceeded to outline that Hillary at a minimum committed gross negligence by calling her extremely careless and reckless, and then stated that the FBI would not recommend prosecution. Yet despite the supposed outrage by many, I did not notice any surprise at this.
This means that a lot of people in the media and government are o.k. with some corruption, so long as that corruption does not rise above some undefined level. With a lot of Democrats I know, the unacceptable level is an actual conviction – Hillary has decades of corrupt behavior, but that’s o.k. because she has never been convicted.
The new slogan for the Democrat party should be “Democrats – Lowering The Ehtical and Moral Bar Since 1992.”
And now 0bama will go on tour with hillary. Which means he’s trying to get his daughters Zatziki and Melaleuca some cabinet jobs. Maybe they’ll actually work inside the bathroom cabinet where her new servers will be if she’s elected.
