FDA lifts ban on blood donation for gay, bisexual men

NYP: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lifted a decades-long ban on sexually active gay and bisexual men from donating blood, overruling a restriction dating back to the 1980s AIDS crisis.

Updated federal guidelines were announced on Friday, marking a win for LGBTQIA+ rights organizations and experts who have long called the ban discriminatory.

The draft guidelines focus on the sexual behaviors of all people — rather than singling out gender and sexual identities — and instead measure the risk of transmitting HIV based on sexual practices alone.

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced it is proposing a change from time-based deferrals to assessing blood donor eligibility using gender-inclusive, individual risk-based questions to reduce the risk of transfusion-transmitted HIV,” the agency said Friday.

Those in monogamous relationships, regardless of sexual orientation, will be eligible to donate blood as an act of public service. This means some previously prohibited from donating will be allowed to give blood for the first time since 1985. more

  1. And another step into the past away from science. Probably should lift the ban on mad cow disease too while they’re at it.

Nurse, bring me leeches, stat! Never mind, the blood letting has stopped the patient’s complaining…

  2. I wonder how that’s going to work for all those billionaire out there demanding blood only from “pure bloods.” HIV and hepatitis B&C, are also spread through blood. Looks like I’m worth something to someone after all.

  3. This one brings the reminder of my watching my brother die from the HIV tainted Factor VIII that our friends in Big Pharma sent out. Took a couple of years. Add in the one below and you have to wonder who the last one standing will be. Yeah, I know the unvaxed have a better chance, but what will be left… Not sure I want to witness the next five to ten years.

    Close it up.

  4. Thinking back further I recall there were also those out there that were HIV positive who lied about it and wanted “to punish” everyone else who was healthy by passing it on with whatever means they found available.

“I’m going to be sick and suffer, so I’ll take as many as I can with me.”

It’s been said that the human species ain’t much to write home about in a positive way by many examples.

We are truly living in “Interesting Times.”

  5. “LGBTQIA+ rights organizations and experts have long called the ban discriminatory.”

Ummm: yes. We should discriminate between untainted and likely tainted blood. No harm done to those whose donations were turned down. If they were denied transfusions of healthy blood, they would have a point but this ban was not bigoted “discrimination.”

This is a diversion to please the lefties and set a precedent for not testing blood for damage from the MRNA vax.

  6. this totally ignores science
    even ‘settled’ science
    ‘the’ settled science

“To get the earliest, most accurate result, first consider when you were exposed and whether you’re showing symptoms.

If you know exactly when you may have come into contact with the virus, take a test 3 months after that date. Tests 3 months after exposure should be 99% accurate.
    …”
    that’s from webmd.com/hiv-aids/hiv-window-period

this is from the same people that, just a very few months ago, wanted people to wear a mask and stay inside at home. Try two masks. ‘Two more weeks.’ Now they want to ignore the known incubation period for a disease that has only treatment and no cure, and base eligibility on which boxes were checked. And they will probably pay for the blood, too.
    What could go wrong?
Oh, that’s right= the pharmaceutical companies have maintenance treatments available

  7. unless they store the blood for the ‘window’ period (if that can even be done), which is when the disease is asymptomatic but communicable, and before use, test at that time, this is very dangerous.
    it surprises me

is there artificial intelligence involved in this?
someone or something is making some really bad choices

  8. The LBGT++++ community is also one of the most compliant vaccinated populations. I’ve seen estimates of 90%+ having had boosters. Not to mention whatever was in their MonkeyPox vax. So you’ll get a big dose of spike protein along with whatever else they have. Demand for that clean blood bank is going to skyrocket.

  9. we’ve known for years that the H1N1 retro virus does NOT cause AIDS; it’s caused in the West by the drugs used to have multiple partners each night, and in Africa by getting malaria and dysentery at the same time.
